In the early ‘80s, while the New Romantics were gossiping like hens at the cosmetics counter, bands like Downey, California’s Blasters were making noise for the working man that was substantial, fun, celebratory, and rooted in America. They cleared the path for countless “cowpunk” bands and the neo-traditionalists in mid-80s country music.
From the 1980 LP of the same name: “American Music” by the Blasters. A fun start to any American Saturday night party or American Sunday drive. USA! USA! USA!

I wasn't familiar with them but recently ran across a Farm Aid performance and loved it. They're great!
Hmmm. I might have to go CD shopping.

There's a 2 disc set of their first two albums, called Testament. it has some of their more countryish stuff, and was released before Los Lobos poached their sax player.

I went and listened to enough tracks to know I'd want the album. I found a new one factory sealed on ebay.
I lived and worked in that SoCal area all through the 80's but was dedicated to country music during that time, so never listened to anything else. My radio was only tuned to country and baseball.

The music business is hard for most performers.
I'm no expert in music but I have been supporting my son's music efforts for his working lifetime. He is a performer, mostly blues guitar, songwriter, band leader, recording producer, and teacher. He received a WAMA (Washington Area Music Association) award for Best Blues Album in 2019. This year his music video "Rivals" from the album "Shine" has been nominated for the WAMA award for Best Music Video. He's been teaching guitar to young people at "The School of Rock" and teaching "Music Business" at Prince Georges County community college in Largo, MD.
