My Thanksgiving Contribution

The Thanksgiving bug has bitten me. It’s the perfect holiday for joy and reflection, so I thought I would share a few thoughts and good wishes.

First, I love how much we enjoy all the prep. We even enjoy grocery shopping. I always worry about finding dried cherries, but they always show up. I remember the days when my mother stressed out in the kitchen; we’ve chosen not to do that. Jerry and I both have the dishes we each make: He’s in charge of the turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans. I enjoy making our whole cranberry sauce with dried cherries, and our stuffing made with broken matzah. And we put a couple of sweet potatoes in the microwave. And a Sara Lee frozen apple pie in the oven.

That’s it.

We don’t make other special dishes or biscuits because I prefer to eat dishes I love.

This year we are having just our next-door neighbors. They are good and generous people, and we always enjoy having them over. In past years we’ve had around a dozen people, but somehow it seems just right this year to have the four of us. Pat always wants to bring something, so I’ve suggested a small appetizer. Mike will probably bring wine.

In a year filled with turmoil and uncertainty, it seems perfect to just move through a giving-of-thanks process that encourages us to relax, be present, know joy and friendship, and remember to express our gratitude for all the blessings we do have.

And there are many.

Our very warmest wishes for this holiday to all of you, and gratitude for your being a part of the Ricochet family.

Sounds like a lovely day and exactly in the spirit of the holiday. Gratitude for what we have. We celebrated our Thanksgiving with family last Saturday because my newlywed niece and nephew-in-law were able to join us that day. In the past, I would have been sad that we weren't celebrating on Thanksgiving day itself but one of the things I am most thankful for this year is that these two lovely young people found each other. And wouldn't you know, another invitation arrived on Tuesday night for Thanksgiving day. So although I don't need another big meal, I'm having one nonetheless!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Lots of opportunities for celebrating, GC! Family, friends, breaking bread. Thanks for your good wishes.

I am having Thanksgiving with family: my three sons, and my granddaughters. And they cook. Give praise to the Lord.
