Henry Kissinger, who fled Nazi Germany at age 15 to become the 56th United States Secretary of State during the turmoil of the 1970s has died at age 100.

His work to build a relationship between China and the U.S. made sense at the time. The triangulation between China and the Soviet Union made it worthwhile.

It's somewhat interesting that his death has sparked so much comment on the major news sites. He hasn't held public office in almost 47 years.
After he left office, he was a major player behind the scenes, still maintaining contact with foreign leaders. He had a consultancy firm, was on various corporate boards and managed to stay in the edge of public consciousness.
Probably the only other Secretary of State in the latter half of the 20th century that equals or exceeds him in accomplishments would be George Schultz, who also died past the age of one-hundred.
