The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. - Matthew 6:22
I had cataract surgery on Thursday. One eye (they do each separately). Yet even one eye shows the truth of this quote. When your eye is clear, it fills the body with light. The world as seen through that eye is brighter, fuller of light. When I look through that tuned-up eye, the computer screen is white. When I look through the other one, it is yellowish, dull.
The contrast is remarkable. When I look through the eye that has had the cataract removed, I can read the titles of the books on a bookshelf across the room. With my glasses off, seen through the untreated eye, the spines of the book are fuzzy blurs.
The loss of visual acuity is a slow process. I did not realize how much my vision had changed. It is like looking through a newly washed window that had accumulated years of grime. Grime I had not noticed. For the nonce I can wear my glasses with one lens in and one lens out, and see more keenly than I could before the operation.
Matthew had the right of it. When your eye is clear, your whole body is full of light. It is amazing, really.

I had the surgery too. My eyesight went from almost not being able to drive with glasses to removing that restriction on my license. It also improved my vision to 15/15 . . .

I expected the improvement in vision. What was unexpected was how much brighter and clearer everything is now.

After I got home from the first eye surgery, I looked out the front window and marveled at how I could see individual leaves on the trees . . .

My first cataract procedure is scheduled for the 21st. Looking forward to seeing the same results you report.

Had both of mine done four years ago. My vision improved a lot, but I still need a prescription for distance. You're right about the brilliance of colors, though.
