Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
That's the title of an 8-minute video that a gentleman named Walter Hudson, who is currently representing Minnesota's District 30A in the state's House of Representatives, posted on YouTube a couple of days ago.
I came across it courtesy of an X post from Mike "Dirty Jobs" Rowe, who introduced the video thusly:
"If I Ruled the World, I would instruct the presidents of every media outlet to air this video in prime time. I would instruct every professor in every university to show it in every class. And then, I would freeze every social media account, until the owners of said accounts watched this seven minute public service announcement in its entirety. However, because I don't rule the world, and because I don't really harbor authoritarian tendencies, (I think,) I can only share the wisdom of Mr. Hudson on my personal page and encourage you to do the same. And invite him onto my podcast, at his convenience."
Having watched the video, I wholeheartedly second Mr. Rowe's sentiments.

This is the first time I've heard someone point out that Minnesota is a "duty to retreat" state.

So much rationality in one place. Will never penetrate the media.

I saw this video yesterday and he does an incredible job of laying out the facts. The question is: will anyone care?

Even without a "duty to retreat" the physical reality he describes of carrying a firearm into an intentional confrontation with law enforcement is still true. Anyone who is carrying a firearm presumably understands that confronting or creating a conflict with law enforcement becomes more dangerous for everyone because you are carrying that firearm, and that a violent result is likely.
