Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life. – Mark Twain

We have an election coming up in a few days. Yes, it is important, but there are other, more important things. There is life outside politics, even for political junkies like me.

As Twain reminds us good friends and good books are two major pillars of a happy life. Surely all of us in the Ricochet community have the first. I certainly indulge in the second, even making reading and enjoying good books into a side hustle. (Proof that God has blessed me.) Reading is one of life's cheap pleasures. As for the third? Life is best if you do not obsess over the mistakes you have made and the hurts you have caused. Make corrections and amends as best you can and leave it behind you.

Whatever the result is on Tuesday, focus on what you have - and what makes life good.

I will leave you with this (hat tip, Mark Tapscott, Instapundit):

I am leading an "after the election" gathering on Wednesday. I will show this video. I think it offers some very useful advice.

    What do I say?

I like the video and I believe what is presented.

A big piece, where the problem really is, is missing.

Money, banking, and big business, the relationship of this to how our government is operating, especially with respect to institutions that are the daily bridge between the people and government.

First, the family and the church are the closest to the people.

Second, public, private, and higher education.

Third,Non-government organizations NGO's, usually thought of as charities.

Fourth, traditional institutions including academia, media, medicine, and law.

Fifth, commercial activity and banking, big and small.

Last, politics and where we are. Government and big business have co-opted and corrupted all these into the political arena to an extent that makes the separation of these from the election process next to impossible.

This turns otherwise normal people into political junkies.

@Seawriter I hope you don't take my response to this as hijacking your post. I do consider this the most important election of my lifetime because of the present government attacks on free speech. Attacks on free speech are equivalent to attacks on Christianity because free speech is a vital component in the exercise of individual agency that is required for Christian life.

EDIT: After I posted this comment, I remembered the end of the video said 'what do you have to say', so I guess it's not a hijack.

Great advice! If the election results disappoint Harris/Walz supporters, they are probably more likely to freak out privately and possibly lash out publicly because their beliefs are only of this world. They think everything has to be perfected here, since they think it's all we've got. Imagine the pressure.
