Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
I’ll never forget the first moon landing in 1969. I was fourteen and my mother and I were vacationing in Pensacola, Florida, and we watched the landing on a small TV set in our motel room. My mother said something like, “I can’t believe it! They really landed on the moon!” It seemed so surreal and incredible at the time.
That greatest scientific achievement in human history occurred even as the social revolutions of the ‘60s rocked our country and much of the world. But despite all that nihilistic sound and fury, the grownups were still in charge and fully capable of achieving greatness. And they could work furiously without having to worry about hurting anybody’s feelings. (The significance of that will become apparent momentarily.) And in that moment, it seemed the sky was the limit, literally. Mars would be much more difficult, of course, but in a couple of decades, say, we would certainly achieve that, right?
Wrong. After only about three and a half years, we were done with the moon and since 1972, no human being has gone beyond Earth's orbit. To be fair, there have been fantastic achievements with unmanned missions, but human space exploration has gone nowhere.
Enter Elon Musk, America’s preeminent immigrant entrepreneur, who dreams big and wants to go to Mars. He founded the company, SpaceX, with the purpose of reducing the cost of space transportation and ultimately of developing a sustainable colony on Mars.
Musk is a guy who knows how to get things done, but this isn’t the same America he first came to. This is now woke America. This is race- and identity-obsessed America. This is everybody’s-a-victim (except straight white males) America. This is I-can’t-take-a-joke, snowflake America, where even the slightest offense constitutes a “hostile work environment” and causes near spontaneous lawsuits to materialize — as they have at SpaceX.
In contemporary woke America, it was all so predictable. SpaceX and Musk are being sued by eight former employees — five women and three, um, men — who claim they were illegally fired for raising concerns about sexual harassment and gender discrimination. The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that Musk “runs his company in the dark ages — treating women as sexual objects to be evaluated on their bra size, bombarding the workplace with lewd sexual banter, and offering the reprise to those who challenge the ‘Animal House’ environment that if they don’t like it they can seek employment elsewhere.”
Seriously? Where’s my violin?
So, what, are we supposed to believe that SpaceX is like something out of an episode of Mad Men, where it’s 1962 and all the women in the office are getting slapped on the ass and hit on in between pouring coffee and taking dictation? It was a little off-color humor, for crying out loud. Get over it! We’re trying to go to Mars, here.
What do you want to bet these eight plaintiffs overwhelmingly vote Democrat? Why would that be relevant? Because while they’re complaining about Musk “bombarding the workplace with lewd sexual banter,” the Democrat Party promotes the bombardment of every place, including elementary schools, with endless sexual depravity of every kind, all in the name of “inclusivity.”
In fact, every institution in the country is totally down with and actively promoting every facet of the rainbow agenda to corrupt, to sexualize, to pervert, to queer and to trans every child, adolescent and even grown-up it can manage to wrap its slimy tentacles around. And these plaintiffs are upset about some “lewd sexual banter” at SpaceX? Shut! Up!
If you think about it, and given the rainbow conquest of virtually everything, how can “sexual harassment” even still be a legal concept? Total depravity is the order of the day and is even considered virtuous by the smart set. In effect, the entire country has been turned into “Animal House.”
“Lewd sexual banter?” And you’re going to sue somebody over that? Sod off! Not when hulking biological men are allowed to invade women’s restrooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms. Not when little kids are being queered by Disney and groomed by degenerate drag queens. Not when elementary school libraries are brimming with homosexual porn. Not when adolescents are allowed to declare themselves the opposite sex and commence chopping off body parts. Not when the entire month of June is given over to a national freak show of perversion on parade.
(By the way, I am offended every minute of every hour of every day by the rainbow’s trashing of our country and its corruption and perversion of everything. Who can I sue for that?)
We're all living under a rainbow reign of terror where literally anything goes, even with children, so I don’t want to hear about “lewd sexual banter,” especially in an adult workplace. Having immersed all of us in a state of sexual and gender depravity, they have made the word “lewd” utterly meaningless. According to the rainbow, which our every institution reveres, anything goes and it’s all good.
So here’s a question: Can a country that operates like this come together in a massive coordinated effort of thousands of talented but imperfect people and countless billions, if not trillions, of dollars and achieve the goal of colonizing another planet?
And the answer is a resounding . . . I dunno, maybe. But only if Musk can find a way to get around the hypersensitive workplace Karens and feminized men who can’t get over themselves and would gladly sabotage humanity’s greatest scientific and exploratory endeavor over any gender-related trifle.
The fact is, nobody’s going to Mars without absolute boatloads of testosterone-fueled masculinity, off-color humor and all. Nobody’s getting there on wokeness or grrl power. And they don’t need a crop of nonbinaries to get the mission a rainbow stamp of approval.
How did we ever get to the moon without cultural Marxist commissars enforcing their woke puritanism on NASA? Because there were no such commissars then — but there are now and their presence unavoidably hampers imperfect people’s pursuit of excellence. All it would take is one off-color joke or a vaguely patriarchal attitude to offend some hypersensitive, nose-ringed employee and bring down the whole shebang before they can hit the launch button.
In fact, I can just imagine how it might play out . . .
All systems are “go” as we await the final countdown for the historic Mars mission . . . Ten . . . nine . . . eight . . . seven . . . No, wait! Abort, abort, abort! I repeat . . . Mission aborted! All hands stand down! We’re awaiting official word about the problem . . . Okay, roger that. Attention, please! HR has officially aborted the mission because of a complaint about toxic masculinity by a Mission Control associate. Everyone report to their safe spaces at once and follow instructions from your respective diversity officers until further notice. Repeat . . . Mission Aborted!
Elon Musk dreams big, but colonizing other worlds is more likely something to be done in a civilization’s ascendancy, not as it plummets towards its nadir in a total state of moral, intellectual and spiritual collapse. Half the country doesn’t know what a woman is or which bathroom to use, but we're going to another planet? It’s all part of the national psychosis that Elon referred to as the “woke mind virus.” He should know better than anyone how that virus has the ability to quash human achievement and progress.
Nonetheless, by all means, Elon, give it your best shot. But I’ll be flabbergasted if HR doesn’t crash the entire project before any human being can slip the surly bonds of Earth on the way to Mars.

It would be nice if people would stop using the name “Karen” to disparage a certain type of woman. (And, no, my name is not Karen.) The origins of this meme are not certain. Some say it was a NYT opinion article by a female writer criticizing a woman she knew.
However, a few years ago the meme became popular as a way for people of color, particularly black Americans, to criticize middle-class white women. It is firmly in the insult category and seems to be used every day - in the media and in person.
Please stop using this short-cut and use your words: entitled woman, snowflake, etc. Get a Thesaurus. Real people really named Karen don't deserve this.

Hmm . . . So that's what you gleaned from this post? Interesting . . .

I don’t know if Musk will succeed. If he fails, it will have more to do with money, engineering and the limits of human beings.

I laughed out loud at both comments for completely different reasons.

Yes, feminized-men ... who try to look like lumberjacks! (Apparently, superficial masculinity isn't "toxic.")
"Style over substance:" One of the hallmarks of leftism.
