Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.
A staffer for my home state Senator, the terminally mediocre Ben Cardin, filmed himself (the staffer, not the Senator) being sodomized in a Senate conference room and put the video online. He made a lame defense on Twitter about being persecuted for "who he loved". The victim trope failed. He was fired. He also denied harassing a California Democratic congressman for supporting Israel.
Things must have changed more than I thought. Back in my day when I was paid to spend time on The Hill, the idea of a staffer publicly berating a Member--or White House interns objecting to the President's policy--was unthinkable. Illicit office sex was not unknown but done with discretion unless one was Ted Kennedy or Chris Dodd.
Perhaps we should expect a mass of sympathetic demonstrators to do something spectacularly disgusting in the Capitol Rotunda in the near future--sodomites for a free Palestine? Irony buried in a giant heap of sheer repugnance?
It would be consonant with the proudest traditions of the modern Democratic Party.

This has been coming for awhile, see Christopher Lasch’s The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations. It was published in 1979, but seems to be proved correct with each passing outrage.

Well, decency was on the ballot, apparently.

More evidence -- if you needed any -- that Washington D.C. is a decadent cesspit of sex and money and drugs.
(And people say "Pizzagate" is too crazy to be true.)
What DC needs is a good meteor strike. I'm not entirely joking.

I have to congratulate Old Bathos on the "Rum, Sodomy, & the Lash" reference. Well done.
