Held in New York City, the 1939 World's Fair was a stunning display of wonder, imagination, and technology ... so stunning, they made a radio out of it ... And, to speak in the vernacular of the peasantry, a real beaut' ... That "vernacular of the peasantry" was, of course, from another 1939 "beaut'" "The Wizard of Oz" ...

At the opening of the 1939 World’s Fair, an RCA engineer took a photo of a something they called a “television monitor” showing Franklin Roosevelt in front of NBC’s cameras and becoming the first President to appear on that medium. Too bad it never caught on.
