The Libertarian Podcast: Richard Epstein Responds to the State of the Union
Last night, I chatted with Richard Epstein about this year’s State of the Union address. We covered President Obama’s deficient understanding of economics, proposals for a minimum wage increase, what role technology has played in changing the labor market, and the weaknesses of the president’s foreign policy posture. Be forewarned—Professor Epstein was en fuego:

Wow. En fuego is right!
My experience is that there is one way to slow Richard down — and that is to have him to dinner (which we did a few days ago and will again tonight).
We need to get Professor Rahe on Twitter, if only so he can live tweet this.

Is there an RSS feed for this podcast? I have looked but not found. Help appreciated.
It’s here.
This was all a very elaborate way of saying that Barry has no idea what he’s doing. I can still sense (after listening to dozens of Law Talk podcasts) that Richard still harbors some sense of amazement that the rational world that he lives in, and the rest of us live in, is completely beyond the intellectual grasp of the sitting (or golfing) President.
All the rational in the world does not matter to someone who’s been raised in at atmosphere where nothing he says or does is challenged – the result is that a mediocre brain thinks he’s infallible. The sign of wisdom is being at least willing to take a look at real data and challenge your preconceptions, and entertain the possibility of outcomes other than the ones you’d prefer to happen.
In other words, the cold smack of reality has never happened to Barry. Unfortunately, we’re getting his smacks, because he controls massive economic levers that are killing every one of us incrementally, and he’s going to retire with millions and live out the rest of his days completely blind to reality.
I’d really like to watch him try some math.
It’s awesome to listen to Dr. Epstein extemporize flawlessly, paragraphs at a time.
My nickname for Richard has long been “The Human Paragraph”.
I’d really like to watch him try some math. ·January 30, 2014 at 6:36pm
I’m not sure I’d want to watch this….it’d be like watching an alligator put on a sweater. At some point its just becomes too painful to watch.
