The Three Whisky Happy Hour: Why the Jan. 6 Narrative is Like Climate Change

Subscribe to 3 Whisky Happy HourSubscribe

We open this first episode of the 3WHH of 2022 with the existential question: why is Lucretia so mean to Steve? Actually she has a really good reason, but you have to get all the way to the end for the reward—or is it a redemption? (Steve attempts to mellow Lucretia with a Snickers Bar of an op-ed in the middle, with some success.)

In any case, we try to offer some original and comparative perspective on the relentless leftist narrative about January 6, which somehow reminds Steve of . . . climate change. (You'll just have to listen to learn the parallel, but it works!)

From there we continue on to the collapse of the Biden Administration's entire COVID policy, which sees the White House trying to manage a withdrawal from the field every bit as disastrous and embarrassing as the withdrawal from Afghanistan. As with the January 6 "issue," Steve and Lucretia engage in a spirited debate on how best to think about the scene: should we be appalled, disgusted, or outraged? (Of course, this isn't multiple choice: you can be All of the Above, and more.) Among other things, there's a lot of good schadenfreude to be enjoyed at how badly Democrats are alienating their own constituents.

Cheers! (This week's bonhomie brought to you by Rittenhouse Rye and Macallan 15.)

    I bet if you studied the demographics of the Proud Boys and the FBI, you’d find that they were close to identical. It reminds me of the West German bureaus where almost everybody was an East German spy. Someone had to get the work done. Seriously though, the FBI needs to be closed or thoroughly revamped. Comey didn’t disclose FBI political operations to the Congressional oversight committees. I hope that the spineless Republicans will do something to reform/replace the FBI if they retake Congress this fall.

    Thanks to both of you for another enjoyable hour. I'm beginning to think the only way we can bring sense to the stupid is sweeping wins at the elections for the next three years. Of course, the likelihood of that happening is probably slim and done.

    I too was at "The Insurrection," and have written of my Return to the Scene of the Crime this past Thursday, January 6, 2022. My experience closely parallels those of Steve's friends:

    • I was in high school when Steve was in high school;
    • I have a professional degree to go with my undergraduate degree;
    • I did not go inside the Capitol either, and found the crowd to be "energetic and patriotic peaceable assemblers," "concerned, supportive, somewhat anxious [about the rigged election], but all patriotic Americans."

    I do love the idea of a "Join the Insurrection" campaign, but I see a complication that didn't exist when Hillary branded us all "deplorables," a term that we embrace, akin to the colonists adopting British loyalists' insult of "Yankees." Hillary made the "deplorables" accusation entirely on her own. That's very different from e.g., the Russian collusion accusation. The Russian collusion accusation was a product of the fully integrated corrupt federal government, Democrat Party, and news media. It is impossible to disintegrate that amalgamation. Anyone who has been paying attention - such as the Red Eye Radio guys - can now see that

    1. the FBI's Operation Crossfire Hurricane;
    2. the news media's Fusion GPS (which employed Mrs. FBI 3d in Command Ohr)'s
    3. Steele Dossier (that was commissioned by)
    4. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, (that was underwriting the then-insolvent)
    5. Democrat National Committee

    were all in the effort together, from the very beginning.

    The characterization of the January 6th protest and subsequent trespass as "The Insurrection" is a similarly coordinated effort involving the highest levels of the federal government (e.g. Merrick Garland, who is protecting FBI contractor Ray Epps, and who is branding ordinary suburban Board of Education meeting attendees as violent right wing extremists akin to "Insurrectionists"), the news media, and of course the Democrat Party. The local DC law enforcement community has joined, cooperatively operating the gulag for the hundreds of detained "Insurrectionists," most of whom haven't even been charged with any crimes.

    Thus, as Lucretia points out on Steve's Powerline post, meaningful opposition is difficult to muster among those who might actually be terrorized by the same FBI that terrorized Roger Stone and others.

    Conversely, I don't believe that the integrated Democrat/Media/Government cabal can leverage "The Insurrection" through the politics of fear as easily as they have done with CoViD-19. My guarded optimism is based on the fact that when CoViD started, no one knew what it was. Granted, two full years later, now that we know that it has never been an especially lethal virus and we know that there are myriad effective treatments in addition to vaccines, many choose to be Chicken Little. HOWEVER, as I discussed on my Return to the Scene of the Crime post, one year later the American public isn't paying any attention to "The Insurrection." They know what it is, and they recognize it as nothing. Certainly nothing to be feared.

    It wouldn’t surprise me if there were more minorities in the Proud Boys than in the FBI.
