Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

Lucretia, freshly back in the U.S. from her adventures with Steve in Budapest, is in the host chair for this week's episode, and she's not in a good mood. And it's not jet lag. Looking out at the concurrent disasters at home and abroad at the moment—high inflation, an undefended southern border, and now war in Israel—she poses a straightforward question: Would any of this be happening if Trump was still president? And more acute to a certified dog-lover: While Trump has many personal flaws, would he kick a dog? The evidence accumulates that Joe Biden is not just a terrible president, but a terrible human being.
From there we take up the inner desires of Kamp Kommandant Hillary Klinton, the good news (for John) of the return of the McRibb, and the demise of Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Which somehow leads to a discussion of President James K. Polk, whom John thinks is an executive to be highly esteemed, drawing immediate 50-cal fire from Lucretia. And we also marvel afresh at the feral genius of Trump's method of contesting the kangaroo court fraud trial under way in New York.
But it isn't all bad news. We celebrate the fact that apparently women, too, think a lot about the Roman Empire, though Lucretia prefers to think of the Roman Republic instead, since she founded it.

What were the Kevin McCarthy led House Republicans doing that would have led Independents to want to vote R. One must first mobilize the base and he was turning them off. Did any of our R genius leaders think of trade offs? They could have said to Biden in 2022 we’ll give you $40B for Ukraine if you give us $4B to build the wall. The B administration could have been required to show a concrete plan to do this with measurable interim goals. Instead, they gave Biden what he wanted and got nothing in return. The R base wants border security; the R leadership wants contributions from the Chamber of Commerce and for the NYT to not think they’re mean.
McCarthy promised to distribute the J6 tapes. That was in his power. The reaction to Tucker showing them on one program shows why the D don’t want this. There are good reasons why we call the Republicans the stupid party.

As I posted in December of last year
Mark Steyn for Speaker!

And if it loses, you get the Intelligently Malevolent Party in its place.
This is where we should all take a minute to reflect upon Aesop’s fable about “King Log and King Stork”.
Sure, the Republican Party (like the Weimar Republic) deserves to lose but, considering the implications, America doesn’t deserve for it to lose.

I want it to win but in such a way that it makes a difference. Paul Ryan and company fought Trump over building a wall. Too many D.C. Republicans care more about Ukraine’s borders than they do about the U.S.’s. I lived for 30 years in Illinois. Illinois R moderates demanded that conservatives vote for their candidates but they did not return the favor.

I agree with John -- I want Lucretia's five- (or seven-) minute tutorial on phenomenology, particularly hermeneutic phenomenology, if she is so inclined.
