Is it just us, or did this week seem even crazier than usual? We didn't have time to cover all the crazy in the news, and had to settle for trying to select the most stupid crazy thing said this week, though even that was a hard selection to make. But we gave a group award to everyone involved in trying to persuade the Supreme Court that boys should be allowed in girls sports. So much to work with.

We considered whether and how the Insurrection Act might work in the case of insurrectiony Minnesota, and then move on to our main event today: is America in fact the "best regime" in the classical, Platonic/Aristotelian meaning of the term (Steve and Lucretia say Yes, while John is confused and cantankerous as usual), and if so does this help explain the left's deep hatred for America?

Steve - Wallace was governor of Alabama the first time from 1963-7. Thus, he opposed desegregation of the University of Alabama when Kennedy was president not Eisenhower.

Good point. I'm getting old and memory is (not) catching up.

I spent some time in Greenland in 1980 and 81, working on the Greenland Ice Sheet Project.

Photographic evidence that there is some green in Greenland. This was taken a few miles northwest of the old Sondrestrom Air Force base.

But most of it looked like this. Sunrise/sunset middle of the "night" late June. Near the old DYE-3 DEW Line station.

Can we at least agree that if JD maintains his 'bromance' with the now pretty vile Tucker Carlson (and Tucker's friend, Candy) that he can kiss 2028 goodbye?

I can't speak for the other 150 million voters, but he can certainly kiss my vote goodbye. Even by the low standards of politicians, he is exceptionally unprincipled. He was Never Trump when he thought that was helpful, full-blown MAGA when he realized that was helpful, and now in bed with the Jew-hating right because he sees some advantage in cozying up to that destructive wing of the party. No thanks. It's a shame because he is so good at making fools of the Sunday morning talk show activists.
