The Three Whisky Happy Hour: John Yoo One-on-One with...Charles Barkley??

So we had promised last week that this episode would feature a cage match between Lucretia and John about realism versus idealism as applied to the Ukraine War (especially since John baited Lucretia by calling her a neocon, which is fighting words not just in the desert west), as well as the problem of January 6, but the passing of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Henry Kissinger diverted us, along with the DeSantis-Newsom debate.

Along the way we were treated to an extraordinary tale—John Yoo, as a young Supreme Court clerk, going one-on-one with the visiting Charles Barkley at the Supreme Court's own basketball court, which is known as the highest court in the land because it is located on the upper story of the Supreme Court building. Can you guess how it went? (Barkley was still playing in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns at the time.) It was the surprise revelation of this episode.

We had lots of critical (though respectful) things to say about both Justice O'Connor and Henry the K, and I suspect as usual listeners will find our contentions unique and not widely mentioned in the torrents of encomiums for both historic figures this week.

And we promise we'll go the cage match next week, or your money back. (Though we did do a small preview with a brief argument about why the cause of Israel should rank higher than the cause of Ukraine.)

You'll notice Charles Barkley never dared square off against Lucretia!

The problem with the spending for decades now is that there's always that something coming along about which everyone says, "Obviously we have to pay for this now, and then we can focus on cutting the deficit later." Wars anywhere in the world, natural disasters anywhere in the world, financial crises, bailouts of individual industries, a pandemic, and on and on. "Later" never comes. Emergencies will continue. When I moved to California in 1980, the expert scientists said the San Andreas Fault was long overdue and almost certain to go within 30 years, and the longer the pressure builds, the worse it will be. Now it is 43 years later, I'm back in NY, and still no "Big One." That, when it comes, will bring an enormous price tag. Yet we go on budgeting as if no emergencies will ever arise. And so, every year at budget time, "Oh, yes, we must pass the budget to keep the government running, and then we'll work on a better budget later." And that later never comes, either.

When you mentioned Kissinger and THEN Sec.Austin it simply reminded me that there is NO STAR in this entire Administration.

Dr. Realpolitik was not everyone's cup of tea but he was a star. Inside the Biden/Harris house there is ....????

    No one.

    Nada ...Zip.

I tell ya, Macbeth has the same question and the same two answers as Plato's Republic. It's the heart and soul of both books, and it's beautiful.

I'm trying to get this written up and submitted to a journal--inshallah, inshallah.

I dunno. I could wish that it were Newsom vs. DeSantis. But the biggest issue isn't any policy anymore, is it? The issue now is whether the people even have a right to vote on policy.

Biden vs. Trump is the Deep State's chosen enemy vs. the Deep State's puppet.

Seems like the right election on the number 1 issue.

Egad, this is depressing. Maybe later I'll work in a Marvin gif.
