So your three bartenders are back from overseas, but still a bit jet-lagged and struggling to keep up with the news. Was it a good week? The firing of Scott Pelley is certainly good news, as are the initial results of the California primary, where the energy and enthusiasm are clearly on the side of the outsider insurgent candidates. (Knock on wood: let's see how the "vote counting" goes over the next several weeks in the "incompetent" Golden State.)

Not such a good week for John Bolton, nor for aesthetic sensibility, if the Obama library is any indication. Why does the left prefer brutalist ugliness? We have our suspicions. . .

We do our longer dive this week into some meta-narratives about the Supreme Court, inspired by Paul Moreno's terrific Law & Liberty article, "Save the Last Branch for Me." It's a new day indeed.

We also get in our licks at woke British policing, Star Trek, and the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, which has some rather uncommon Eucharistic forms. Oh, also McDonald's news, just to keep John Happy and well-fed.

    Centuripe...interesting little town. It means, I believe, '100 turns '. Got stuck there in 1972 when a few hundred sheep would not get off the road...also had a wonderful lunch that we planned to have elsewhere but we were stuck so long we ate there. (There was no Mac in Enna then!)

    Because they believe there should be no standards of beauty because it isn't fair. It's why you see fat models in the SI swimsuit issue, and lard butts in Victoria's Secret catalogues (although I believe Vicki has changed her mind about that).

    The left doesn't believe in standards because not everyone can achieve them, which is why we have lowered the bar for many professions, games where no one keeps score, and participation trophies instead of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place . . .

    I came up with a name for the Obama Library. We should call it The Kollos Building. In the original Star Trek, in the episode "Is There Truth in No Beauty?", Kollos is the ambassador of the Medusan race. He is so ugly that any humans who so much as looked at him would be instantly driven insane.

    The word y'all were grasping for was "suttee". I commend to your attention Kipling's poetry about cigars, The Betrothed:

    The British Colonel you were looking for was Charles Napier.

    Finally, the alternate name for Lucretia's new puppy was Huon, Captain of Dogs. He's a sterling character in the song of Beren and Luthien.
