The Three Whisky Happy Hour: Emergency Episode About Charlie Kirk

No bumper music, mirth about McDonalds, whisky, Babylon Bee headlines, or AI Haiku today: the assassination of Charlie Kirk is too serious a matter. John, Lucretia, and Steve (who is still over in Iceland hiking) assembled quickly for this special emergency episode, not only giving first reactions to a still developing story, but also connecting it to several recent events that point to a larger picture. Even before today's despicable event, it seemed as though we were reaching in inflection point in American political life, in which the reckless leftist fantasies of 2020 were finally being rejected.

A couple of days after listening, my lasting impressions:

    • John Yoo seems too willing to play the "both sides" card. That's not reasonable. Political violence is a phenomenon of the left.
    • Steve's characterization is correct, that the violent political rhetoric comes from the very top of the Democrat Party, including its integrated leadership cohort, the establishment media, academia, and the highest levels of the federal bureaucracy.

To the extent there is any analogous behavior on the right, it is primarily on the extreme fringes, coming from nobodies whom nobody knows and to whom nobody listens - nobodies all around. The closest analogy to Republican Party leadership was the white supremacist David Duke, and every time David Duke so much as farted, every MSM reporter would seek out every Republican leader or elected representative and demand to know:

      • David Duke farted - do you fart?
      • Did you smell David Duke's fart?
      • Do your farts smell?

And dutifully report THE ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS JUST LIKE DAVID DUKE!

The political left is indeed a clear and present danger to the republic (and to western civilization). As such, Steve's point in his substack is well taken:

It should be clear by now that our universities are a clear and present danger to America, and the country will not survive unless they are seriously reformed or destroyed. Given that most college administrators and trustees have spines (not to mention the intellect) of a jellyfish, the second option here may be necessary.

"Spines and intellect of a jellyfish" made me laugh. But then I felt a sense of foreboding - Lucretia is a college administrator. No doubt the MSM will soon be reporting DISSENSION ON THE RIGHT - CALLS FROM REPUBLICAN THOUGHT LEADERS TO DESTROY REPUBLICAN THOUGHT LEADERS!
