Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

While most other podcasts are taking the Thanksgiving holiday off, your three bartenders behind the Three Whisky Happy Hour remain on the job, because no one wants leftover podcasts for the long weekend. Steve and Lucretia had traditional home-cooked feasts, while John, naturally, dined Thursday at a yacht club, sweater knotted properly around his neck.
In the middle of this episode that ranges from the metaphysics of free speech to Nikki Haley's chances to the Argentinian and Dutch election results along with the Israel-Hamas deal, Steve recalls hearing Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu in person in Washington several years back explaining that the reality of the Middle East is that often the choice is between bad and worse, and this becomes the unifying theme for several of our disparate topic today.
In some ways, this episode turned into previews of coming attractions, as we set up a clash of the titans (that is, Lucretia against all comers) next week on the ongoing dispute about January 6, and the essence of "neoconservative" foreign policy. Consider these teases as a placeholder, along with our custom exit music, "Am I Very Wrong?", a 1967 tune by a then-obscure combo whose name will not be uttered here:
Am I very wrong
To hide behind the glare of an open minded stare
Am I very wrong
To wander in the fear of a never ending lie
Am I very wrong
To try to close my ears to the sound they play so loud

How many podcasts give you everything "From Genesis to Revelation"?
I was pleasantly surprised to see that you did a podcast for the holiday weekend. Thank you for that. It was good, as always, and clearly you were not in the same location, as John would never have dared to wave the neocon cape in front of Lucretia's nose!
The discussion about choosing between bad and worse made me think of the great Thomas Sowell's aphorism, "There are no solutions, only trade-offs." And somewhat along the same lines of moral choices, I do think Biden won last time but it's worth asking: If Democrats truly believed to the depth of their being that Trump is "worse than Hitler" and will "end Democracy in America", are we expected to believe they would not cheat to defeat him?

You win the prize for recognizing the truly obscure bumper tunes. . . (I thought about using that album title as the title for the whole episode.)
And yes, I expect if Trump win the election next year the deep state will figure out a way to prevent him from taking office.

No mention of the McRib when this was in TWIP?
‘The McRib is the dead beat dad of the fast food world , it comes around once a year and we’re all supposed to get excited’

I do not understand why Lucretia is recycling Russian propaganda. The idea that Ukraine is a Nazi state or even infiltrated by Nazis is ludicrous. I have not seen any credible evidence to support this view. It requires a suspension of disbelief that is breathtaking. It replicates all of the Russian talking points that produce a similar picture of the Russian army as a protector of Ukrainians from revanchist Nazi hordes. This is nonsense on stilts coming from an authoritarian and expansionist state that is scaring all the nations bordering Russia including the previously neutral Sweden and Finland. To suggest that all the nations of West Europe(excepting Slovakia and Hungry) and the Baltic states are willfully ignoring the true nature of Ukraine, spending more money than the USA on funding Ukraine's war effort and ignoring Nazi influence in it beggars belief. If Ukraine loses this war then a state like Estonia with a significant Russian-speaking minority would be next.
There had been a Ukrainian nationalist para-military group in the Donbas some years ago that had used Nazi-like rhetoric. That group has been disbanded with its soldiers integrated into the Ukrainian army. The real Nazis are in the Russian army that routinely uses terror, torture, and child abduction. Does Lucretia understand why the Wagner Group is called by that name? The reason is that it is an openly neo-Nazi group that uses a Slavic swastika as its symbol. If Lucretia is looking for Nazis in Eastern Europe she would be advised to start in Russia.

Great episode as usual, and I will abstain from commenting about the first amendment short of saying that prior to the incorporation doctrine it was set up as a federal government restriction, so states could do exactly what Lucretia and Steve were arguing. Again, federal level is to powerful and actuality anti- American republican government.
I have to defend Pope Francis here, because that bit of "news" shared by Lucretia is highly misleading. The document being referred to did say that people who are repentant of their sins and trying to live a Catholic life can become godparents and be baptized.
Anyone.
Any sinner who wishes to not sin, wishes to become part of the body of Christ wishes to change their ways from sin to goodness, truth, and beauty can be baptized and be godparents.
If they are not repentant, if they do not wish to turn from sin, if they embrace a non-catholic lifestyle, they cannot.
The concept of trans, etc is besides the point being made that the person must be repentant and wish to be part of the faith
Thanks!
