Impeach This! With John Yoo and ‘Lucretia’

Subscribe to 3 Whisky Happy HourSubscribe

What do you get when you combine "Lucretia," Power Line's ever popular international woman of mystery, with John Yoo, whose only mystery is his fondness for McDonalds? You get an episode that talks about fake burgers, the evils of soy, the importance of cooking with fat, fast cars, and even Starsky & Hutch.

Oh, we also go into the impeachment circus currently unfolding in Washington, about which John has written recently to the jeers of lightweights everywhere. We didn't touch much on the series Lucretia and I have been rolling out about the "1619 Project," but I want to give one quick update: our guest from the show in Episode 146, Lucas Morel of Washington and Lee University, has published over at the American Mind his fine article on the subject, "America Was Not Founded on White Supremacy." Give it a look. (And go back and listen in to that episode if you missed it.) Meanwhile, listen in now to find out whether the Impossible Burger should be ranked higher or lower than a Nothing Burger.

I really like the episodes with Lucretia. To me she provides an appealing balance between academic neediness and practical reality (an academic who still sounds connected with reality).

[I wrote my first comment before listening to this particular episode. Now that I have listened, having Lucretia and John Yoo together is absolutely spectacular! Y'all ended and I wanted much more.]

Regardless of the lack of details in the Constitution, and the ambiguity about whether impeachment of a President is a political or a legal matter, the Democrats in the House of Representatives are behaving abysmally. They claim parallels to criminal investigations and indictments to justify secrecy, but they ignore the ethical obligations that are mandatory for criminal prosecutors to consider countervailing and exculpatory evidence. And the objective of impeachment of a President is to undo an election that was held in public, open to public scrutiny, and participated in by 120-some million people. A public election should be undone in public, not in secrecy. And seeking to undo a public election by a secret process that explicitly excludes representatives of approximately half the public is not going to play well to much of the public.

As to the politics, the Democrats have demonstrated that they have no intention of governing, so dragging out the impeachment process is all they got.

Hear, hear to all you've written including Lucretia and John Yoo as guests together.

Steve Hayward and John Yoo appeared to believe that Lucretia was joking when she said that saturated fat (i.e., animal fat) does not matter. I believe that she was absolutely serious. See The Great Cholesterol Con by Malcom Kendrick, M.D. and similar sources.
