Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch.
This week, they discuss Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) endorsing Democrats in the midterm elections, an apparent terrorist attack by a pilot on a plane with many Israeli passengers, new research showing that social media short videos are damaging our brains, and the intensely negative ads about Sunday's Bears-Jets game.
First, they have fun with the IRGC telling Americans to vote for Democrats. It also lies about the Iranian nuclear program and whines about being on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations. Jim says this would not be the first time terrorists or their sponsors injected themselves into a U.S. election.
Next, they discuss Wednesday's breaking news of a FlyDubai flight that nearly crashed after a co-pilot allegedly stabbed the pilot and sent the plane into a dive before he was subdued by passengers, many of whom were Israeli.
Then, they react to new research showing that short videos on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube shorts are damaging our brains and especially our memories. Jim discusses the value of sustained focus on tasks and Greg condemns the algorithms and our inability to put the phones down.
Finally, they have fun with the fierce attack ads against the Bears and Jets heading into Sunday's game.
