Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

Jim spent more than a week in Taiwan, getting first-hand briefing and answers to key questions about how our ally is bracing for a possible Chinese invasion. Today, Jim briefs us on what he learned - the good the bad and the crazy.
First, Jim explains the significant advantages Taiwan has in the event of Chinese aggression. From the physical characteristics of the island to the massive urban setting and even jungle conditions in other areas, China would face a hostile environment in addition to a hostile population.
Then Jim details the sobering assessment that China will likely attack within the next several years. He also shares how Taiwan's lack of formal independence gives it a second-class status in several important ways - from the United Nations to being ignored by Interpol and the World Health Organization.
Finally, Jim reveals some of the intense and amusing sidelights, from being caught in an earthquake to the quirks of other journalists on the trip to his overt jealousy of the superior engineering of Taiwanese toilets.
