Hah! That was one of those things that just tumbled out of my gob, and I had a sudden vision of a wretched grinning gray-haired ghoul with a long cigar, and immediately thought it best to walk it back.

I don't know how many Americans know about Saville. He never had much of a stateside presence. Some personalities never cross the pond, and the reasons for that would make for interesting speculation. Why Moore but not Cook? Hill but not Saville? Gervais but not Coogan?

“I’m a whiz with the toilet.” Good one.

I’ve experienced the coffee caffeine boomerang. It’s inexplicable and maddening.

I’m exactly your age and also live in a grand old house, here are the practical reasons you can’t sell. You’re living in a home whose replacement cost is probably 4 times its fair market value. (You would be better off with a fire than selling) If you move to some new build condo thing you will get exactly what you paid for. Why not convert the extra space into filming locations. Build a Diner set in the basement, use one of the fireplaces for fireside chats, go completely YouTube and write the whole thing off. When you look at it that way you can’t afford to move.

I saw this in the 1980s and never understood it until the scandal broke and I was producing London Calling.
