James, Steve, and Charles are back for a Halloween treat: H.R. McMaster joins at the top for a chat about military matters: the Maduro regime and boat strikes; UAVs and the fight in Eastern Europe; the Department of War and our readiness.

Plus, the fellas defend cultural confidence, brave the Great Feminization, and name the most horrifying flick they've seen. Happy Halloween!

- Sound from this week's open: Senator John Kennedy on the shutdown.

Hosted by Charles C. W. Cooke, James Lileks, and Steve Hayward, with guest H.R. McMaster

HR McMaster doesn’t know any woke generals? What planet is he on? The last two chairs of the JCS were woke. Milley called Trump, “fascist to the core.” C.Q. Brown imposed racial quotas when he was the head of the Air Force. McMaster is ill informed.

It could also be, that he retired in 2018... Back in those days maybe the woke were quiet about it, so he may know them but not know their views on every topic...Also even social settings these guys would all be in their mid 50s, so its not likely they'd be discussing such things over beers...

But these aren’t obscure one stars. They were the top people in the military.

As a child, long ago, I, along with my siblings, was permitted to go to the cinema only after our mother did a thorough check of the films we were to see. I can't remember seeing a horror movie, because that genre was tacitly out to begin with...I knew The Wizard of Oz from the book and so was not at all frightened when I saw the Judy Garland adaption, only disappointed when I realized that it was a musical. (Being quite a literal-minded lad, I couldn't bear it when characters suddenly burst into song.) I also first read The Exorcist, the novel, and so, when I saw the film, knew that the demon is not victorious. Horror? Yes. Terror? No. (Yes, theologically, even the movie is remarkably at odds with the Zeitgeist and with Hollywood.) Perhaps the most terrifying movie I've ever seen is Wait Until Dark. The Audrey Hepburn character seems surely doomed...But even so, I think one of the most terrifying moments I have experienced in real life was on a roller coaster. I had gone along simply for the sake of my (then) small children. I absolutely hate 'em! My children were utterly ungrateful, accusing me of cheating for closing my eyes...Charles C.W. Cooke is clearly a much braver man than I!
