The hour may be late to protect America's future, but all is not lost. We can sense this thanks to the actions of men like today's guests. Mark Bauerlein joins Rob, Peter and James to discuss how universities have robbed the young of the grand narrative, along with his work at Sarasota's New College.
Andrew Gutman, who made headlines two years ago as a frustrated father willing to speak up, returns to cover some of the startling national trends in primary education, and the lengths he's been going through to get his child a real education. (Keep an eye for the upcoming "Take Back Our Schools" which will feature James Lindsay in the guest chair!)
And it's been such a long while since our hosts have been together, they catch up the sorts of things friends catch up on: newspapers (and other objects) in Jerusalem; the artificial hues blasted on your television set; and a friendly competition to see who can best recount the Canterbury Tales opening lines.
Hosted by James Lileks,
Peter Robinson, and
Rob Long, with guests

As for my peroration on the odd constancy of a certain hue in the ads, I promised I'd put up a post about it. Here it is.

Peter seems to be wrong on a basic point, didn't a lot of Political Correctness etc begin in English departments? Maybe the problem is that they don't normally invent new things, but the tenured profs etc got bored and decided to make up new things anyway?

Hm. Is Rob not aware that scoring in football is mostly in increments of 6?
A football game score of like 3-0 or whatever, would be very unlikely. It would mean that neither team scored a touchdown.
I'll also point out that many people - including Rob, I think - say that one reason soccer is boring is because of spending hours and ending with a score of 2-0, or maybe even a tie after multiple overtimes.
And now Rob is complaining that football - or at least the Super Bowl - should be more like soccer?

Talk to most of them, and you’ll hear variations of, “Ah, kids are just kids, right? Heck, even Plato complained about ‘em! Just wait till they get out in the real world and have a job, a spouse, a mortgage, etc. We’ll see how left wing they are THEN.”
And —
“Relax. Even most of the hippies cut their hair and joined the Rat Race, eventually. These things run in cycles.”
No.
Things are much, much different now.
Andrew Gutman was just starting to address the issue of the staggering cultural & political divide that separates the generations … when his segment ended. Too bad.
And mainstream Republicans simply aren’t comprehending the magnitude of this divide — the thoroughness with which the Left is indoctrinating our kids, and, as a consequence, how reflexively “Woke” most of them are.
Even Rob, who is incredibly bright, doesn’t fully comprehend it, because one of the last things he said to Andrew was that a big reason why Republicans underperformed with young people in 2022 was that the candidates were so bad.
No.
Not that the candidates were good, necessarily, but that’s hardly the point.
So what’s the point? That Americans under the age of 30 are incredibly, unbelievably, staggeringly Woke.

Agreed. The demographics are terrifying. I don't understand why more Republicans don't understand this - the data is not hard to find. And I believe that the real reason schools are pushing the gender ideology stuff so hard is to keep girls from wanting to marry and have children. Keep them single and you keep them very progressive.
