Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

It's legal funtime hour with John Yoo calling in from the always optimistic Golden State. He, James and Charlie dig into the issues at root of the deportation fights between the executive and judicial branches. Considering everything from foreign thugs to Charlie's seditious past and our missed opportunity to conquer France in the early days of the Republic, the fellas turn up what powers they can for the president's effort to toss out the bad guys.
Plus, Charlie bursts John's bubble about Ezra Klein's "new" pitch for abundance; James squints at the Ghibli Twitter takeover; and the gang is a bit puzzled by much of the Signalgate reaction.

I'm guessing the same AI being used to replace artists will soon be used to replace commentators and humorists.

If we aren't used to shooting all ethnicities of zombies then we are under preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

If Jeffrey Goldberg were a patriot rather than a progressive, he would have warned the White House there’s a security breach; and then reported the story after it was repaired. If he’s getting in illicitly, other people may be, too.
It seems wildly improbable that one of the leaders of the anti-Trump “resistance” would end up on the call by accident. Any more than the perjury trap sprung on Mike Flynn, at this point in Trump’s first term, was an accident.
However, instead of Trump’s enemies like last time, it’s been suggested that the perps might be MAGA isolationists who don’t want Mike Waltz to have Trump’s ear.

National parks are unconstitutional? I can't believe I've never heard that before.

I don’t know if you would describe it as being deep within the MAGA movement or on the fringes of it, but there are some very active and vocal groups with some peculiar beliefs about the Constitution and Federalism.
Many of these people and groups overlap. There’s the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, Constitutional Education and Consulting, America’s Frontline Doctors, Oath Keepers, True the Vote and others who sit on each other’s boards and rake in money off of each other’s fund raising.
Among the more popular theories these groups all latch onto is the idea that the states created the federal government and therefore the states are superior to the national government. This, of course, completely ignores the failures of the Articles of Confederation and the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution.
But they believe that when the territories were granted statehood, the federal government had an obligation to either sell off all the land or cede it to the newly admitted state. That makes the National Parks Service “unconstitutional” in their eyes.
In this vein, they also believe that County Sheriffs are the highest law enforcement authority in the nation and that federal agents must first get a sheriff’s permission to operate in his county. (I think the word “sheriff” is right next to the word “musket” in the Constitution.) These people peddle the idea that Governor Ron DeSantis is a “traitor” because he didn’t order the Palm Beach County Sheriff to stop the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago in August of 2022. No matter what you think of the propriety of that action, no sane person thinks DeSantis had the power to stop it.
