Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

It's been an incendiary week since Charlie and Steve last spoke, but they return to chat matters over as they wait for the smoke to clear. They share approval of Israel's strike at Iran, discuss the legal and political questions surrounding the unrest in LA with Andy McCarthy, and wish the great Brian Wilson peace in the afterlife.

Good to see Steve and Charles pushing back a bit on McCarthy's illegal immigration/sanctuary city views (he seems to see so many blurred lines you would think he were in a Robin Thicke video).
However, they all seem to ignore the reality: Blue States and cities have conspired to commit lawfare against Trump's immigration policies, per the Heritage Foundation finding of a compact among these states and cities to legally (and otherwise?) oppose Trump's anticipated call to end birthright citizenship (signed Nov 8, 2024, obviously long in preparation in the event Trump won the election).
They also seem to ignore the fact that ICE actions in LA began primarily as operations against Cartel activities, to include human trafficking, money laundering, slave labor, racketeering, IRS and Customs violations, and etc. The reflex resistance from California Democrats (Bass, Newsom) directly aid the cartels. Which raises a question of Cartel influence in the State. There seems to be a clandestine (or not so clandestine) effort by Democrat politicians to collaborate with the cartels, as Biden did, to enable human trafficking with illegal immigration. THe Biden administration is reported to have signed a non-interference agreement with one of the Mexican cartels, as the cartels were key to bringin illegal migrants to the border and aiding their illegal entrance. Of course the Biden administration also paid NGOs to assist in that effort as well, among them Catholic Charities and the Catholic Bishops association.
There appears to have been a massive collaborative effort, which vastly enriched the cartels, along with the NGOs, who aided in the illegal immigration.
Biden's cooperation with the Cartels was not new. Obama employed it in his "Fast and Furious" operation of running guns illegally to the Cartels.
Considered that it is quite obvious that Dems want to bring in vast numbers of illegals in order to obtain permanent political supremacy in the US. They are doing so at the cost of other States in terms of providing all sorts of free benefits to illegals in part at least with federal money.
With the goal of absolute and permanent political supremacy, it is clear why Democrats in Blue States give no heed to the interests of their constituents. They think they have permanent political control of those Blue States (and they may be correct), and are continuing to enhance that control via illegal immigration.
And they have their big money donors all in on this as well.
I would say this is a plot against the nation. A rebellion. An incursion. An invasion. Sedition. Treason. pick your term.
Rhetoric on the Right is starting to trend in that direction, from David Catron at The American Spectator to Rich Lowry at National Review (even!!!). The comparisons to Nullification, and the behavior of Slave States in the lead up to the Civil war are now appearing in the conservative commentariat. Charles C. W. included.
And the Blue States, in my view, are increasingly committed to violence against federal enforcement of laws as they stand.
It is a strange sensation to see these commentators start to espouse views I have expressed on Ricochet recently (California Cartel, Nullification). But, obvioulsy, I believe there is validity to that view. There is a widening gulf between the States. It may be coming to a head over illegal immigration, after all these decades. How far will it go?
And, unfortunately, the Courts are on one side of the divide, and certainly not on the side of legitimate enforcement of federal law, rather the opposite, and no longer command any credibility. That is the fault of the Courts.
I would note that Andy consistently omits any discussion of the illegality of the appointment of Jack Smith when talking bout the Trump prosecutions. He likes to argue the nuances of Smith's actions and charges, but appears unable to process the idea that the DOJ made an unconstitutional appointment. We have Ed Meese to thank for pointing that out.
Just for the record, if the riots in LA worsen, I would support a declaration of Martial Law in the city. Perhaps other cities as well.. Particularly if the courts say Trump has to return control of the National Guard to Newsom, who would likely use it to support cartel activities and block federal law enforcement. Then we would definitely be in rebellion territory. Hopefully the Courts will not return that control to Newsom. They should not, but it would not be surprising if they do.
