This week, Peter Robinson is off, but we still have plenty o' show for you: First, we go across the pond (well, actually he's in Michigan, but you know what we meant...) to chat with Anglophile John O'Sullivan on Brexit and then we delve deep into the cultural zeitgeist with The Weekly Standard's (and The Substandard podcast host) Jonathan V. Last to examine the legacies of Stan Lee and the great screenwriter and author William Goldman. Finally, is a White House press pass an inalienable right? We discuss. Let us know what you think in the comments.
Music from this week's podcast: Spiderman by The Ramones
Hosted by James Lileks and

Nice photo, but isn't that what Lileks always wears to the office when he starts to feel outnumbered philosophically.

It’s just Newman in the great first scene of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Butch is scoping out a local bank with an eye toward sticking it up soon but sees, to his frustration, all the new tech and security they’ve installed there. Bristling, he turns to a guard by the front door.
”What happened to the old bank?” Butch demands. “It was beautiful.”
”People kept robbing it,” the guard replies.
”Small price to pay for beauty,” Butch snaps before stomping out the door.

A little too modern; I go with the vintage WW2 design.

So what should we do, Rob Long, kill ourselves and get it over with? Uff da, you guys are depressing.
The suburbs were not the problem, doofus, the problem was 41 cowardly Republican congressmen cutting and running. You can't win wars you don't fight. Add in traitors like Jeff Flake, the son of the postman, and Bob (Iran deal) Corker, the criminal PA legislature and here we are.
The loser squish Republicans have had decades to make inroads against the Left and have done exactly nothing. Nixon and the Bushes actually increased the level of statism.
Nor is Trump the problem, Trump is a symptom. Obama was a symptom. The Obama election and the Trump election were both change elections. People want something different than the current state of affairs, which is why inexperienced or stupid or evil people are pushing socialism, and the plain old ordinary people are pushing populism in the form of Trump.
