For once, we can all agree with AOC: Woke 1 was crazy. But rather than laugh it off and set the stage for "true woke has never been tried," perhaps we could ask the youths to learn from their mistakes. To that end, we were pleased to chat with Evan Barker, a former fundraiser who worked within the Democratic Party's establishment and progressive insurgent wing. Having left the party in disgust in 2024, she penned the just-released New York Times bestseller, Nothing Left. James, Steve, and Charlie sat down with Evan to hear her story.
Plus, the trio discuss JD Vance's take on how to sway the youngins from socialism; the Trump admin's new childhood vaccination policy; and a coming Reagan biopic about the 1986 Reykjavik Summit with Gorby.
Opening Sound this week: AOC laughs off “Woke I” on ABC’s This Week, and Karen Friedman Agnifilo, attorney for Luigi Mangione, talks about his“unfair” treatment.
Closing Music: "Je Plante Mes Légumes," by Bamtone via MotionArray
Hosted by Charles C. W. Cooke,
James Lileks, and
Steve Hayward, with guest EBEvan Barker

Evan Barker seems to be an elitist, which is ironic considering part of the discussion was about how she was treated by coastal elites. She talked about non-college graduates as if they could not possibly get a job. In reality, there are millions of high paying job opportunities for anyone who can weld, plumb, or pull wires. The people who are in trouble are all the people with useless college degrees and debt, who are dependent on a big government to pay their debts and pay them to do nothing.

Regarding the deficits and the budgets. Minneapolis had this great radio talk show guy, Jason Lewis. He went onto one year in the House of Representatives. He always said this. The Republicans are lazy. All they do is cut taxes as if supply side economics would let you grow out of it every time. They overdid it in about five years. It's stupid.
Until I hear them talking about public goods only and wiping out inflation, it's just all nonsense. No tax on Tips, blah blah blah.
The other thing is how stupid the progressive system is. The top 1% gets 20% of the income and 40% of the taxes. Then they are the only ones that have enough investments that benefit from the fake inflation the Fed produces. The whole system is set up like that in the extreme and all the idiots expect a different result.

This is just my own opinion, but I think the system is now dependent on government generating debt. The debt flows as income through the system, and it can survive without it.

I heard an interview with her on another podcast and it was excellent. Eyes open - she's young but sees what's going on. As a former liberal, raised in a Democrat household and state, it took me a lot longer to figure it out. I wish her well.

Evan Barker was a nice change of pace and the 3 of you were respectful but she reminded this cradle Catholic of Protestant -almost-converts who cannot quite cross the Tiber.
