Tired of the toxicity of social media? Why not join Ricochet for just $5/month? Think of it as an online bar. Come in, have a drink, hang out, say whatever you want. But don’t badger, bully, or berate the other drinkers. That's our only rule.

They say Labor Day marks the ordinary American's starting point for following a particular election cycle, setting off a scramble for undecides by campaigners and a busy couple of months for pollsters. Henry Olsen returns to discuss where things stand in the presidential race as we head toward the first debate; he offers some potential outcomes that will determine the extent of the Republican majority in the Senate; and he expands on his piece about the populist parties' successes in eastern Germany, explaining "Ostalgie," and detailing the adjustments mainstream parties will have to make if they want to maintain stability in the West.
Plus, James and Charlie are emphatically pro-Churchill.
- This week’s opening sound: Darryl Cooper's take on Winston Churchill in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

Glad to hear James Lileks and Charles C.W. Cooke support Sir Winson Churchill, and push the 'thesis' of Darryl Cooper into the sea.

I don't know much about the topic, but I heard Cooper on Tucker and he said, that Germany considered communism the real enemy wanted to partner with England to fight communism. Such an alliance was unlikely, because England had fought the idea of a consolidated power in the European continent for 2000 years, but it is an interesting starting point for a what-if alternate history discussion. The whole European talk ignores the inevitable clash in the Pacific. Looking back is also skewed by the fact that communism/socialism are a problem today. I really do not think anything that happened makes Churchill a villain.

I only listened to the part of the Tucker/Cooper podcast where they talked about Jim Jones and the Peoples’ Temple for ten minutes or so. Cooper never mentioned that the cult had abandoned any pretense of religion in favor of communism long before they moved to Guyana.
