We've got a crossover episode, folks! Our friends of the Three Whiskey Happy Hour podcast (Steve Hayward, "Lucretia" and John Yoo) join to talk about the wacky legal matters of our time. There are environmentalists claiming the positive right to enjoy cooperative weather; they discuss the plush and cozy Hunter Biden tier of criminal justice compared to the briar patch tier that The Donald's living in; James dishes out some, ahem, tough love to the yutes; plus our guests pick the word that annoys them most these days.

Song of the Week:

  • Sound clip Fani Willis, Donald Trump and Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) on the indictments (Kennedy courtesy Hugh Hewitt Show)
Host:
•James Lileks
Guests:
•JYJohn Yoo•"Lucretia"•Steve Hayward

    RE: The disaster in Maui

(Herman) Andaya (the island’s emergency manager) ultimately said that officials feared residents would believe a tsunami was coming and evacuate to higher ground if they heard the sirens. “Had we sounded the siren that night we're afraid that people would've gone mauka,” he said, using the Hawaiian directional term that can mean toward the mountains or inland.

Remember, these are the same people who, in 2018, sent out a state-wide alert that ICBMs were making their way to the Islands.

When push comes to shove, the state is not going to save you.

I'm just going to drop this comment someone made on another Ricochet Podcast a while back, without any direct/specified implications or whatever.

Interesting podcast where a bunch of people who have few children (does Robinson have 4? Rob I don’t know…) speculate on why no one has kids. Ask yourselves and your wives? Outside of intense religiosity feminism means your wife works and the kids go to daycare and there isn’t much left for kids beyond 1-3. Whites in the US are below replacement rate and almost at European levels. Religiosity is falling like a brick. These are connected as the rise of feminism even among the religious, and celebrated by conservatives who want their daughter to be a doctor not a mother, results in people being too concerned with this world and not the future and their children.

Which gets me to the real point – the collapse of Christianity as a serous guiding principle is why society is in decay. Its a complicated issue, but at the heart of it wicked people are decadent and we are a wicked godless nation.

They started Medicare and Social Security at gunpoint.

The system is far too, dependent on credit growth which is dependent on population growth. We don't have to have that system, but they chose to do it at gunpoint.

The second the Soviet Union fell they should have made people procreate W-2 slaves at gunpoint.

The first thing they do, and they absolutely have to do, is separate law enforcement from counter terror in the FBI. Straight law enforcement has much better sensibilities about the Constitution than counter terror. That's how we got in trouble.

I must admit, as a regular follower to the Three Whiskey Happy Hour, I started this episode as I did some grocery shopping on Saturday morning and heard Lucretia and immediately thought, "Whoah! did I click on the wrong podcast?!"

After my initial confusion, an excellent show. Still waiting on that hinted at Lileks and Hayward prog rock episode. Make it happen!
