Boys In The Hoodies

As always, we've got everything you could ask for before starting your weekend. From global "warfare" to matters of taste, Ricochet's got it all. First we reconvene with Congressman Mike Gallagher, who shares his take on American defense, energy and the spectacularly bad priorities that have left our armed forces helping our enemies in their propaganda efforts. Then we bring on the one, the only, Vince Guerra–Ricochet member extraordinaire–who takes us through his gift to us all: the Movie Fight Club; where members get to duke it out over who has the best stinkin' taste. (You'll have to join Ricochet if you want in on the fun!) The gang also give a toast to their old pal P.J. O'Rourke and ponder the supposed right-wing takeover of San Francisco's education system. Music from this week's podcast: Shout by Otis Day and the Knights And some promised clips: Gallagher's speech at Hillsdale College And Peter, Rob and P.J.

Hosted by James Lileks, Peter Robinson, and Rob Long

The Buck Stops Here

Remember the good ol' days when a president could be talked out of his worst impulses? So do we. This week the guys had a chance to chat with one of the people our current president should have listened to: Wisconsin Representative (and Marine Intelligence Officer) Mike Gallagher. The Congressman takes us through the poor leadership, political and operational failures, and the dangers we face now that Afghanistan has collapsed. (And if you can, please donate to this GoFundMe campaign to help the family of Rob's friend Habib.) The hosts also get a chance to chat about progressive colonialism and Peter's good feeling about the California recall. Music from this week's podcast: Memory Motel by The Rolling Stones

Bathtub of Damocles

We start this week easy as one of our hosts reports from wonderfully peculiar city of New Orleans. Then Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) joins to discuss the coming cyberwars and he and James exchange words about football. Then Zachary Karabell joins to talk about his newest book: Inside Money: Brown Brother’s Harriman and the American Way of Power, a history of the legendary private investment firm Brown Brothers Harriman, exploring its central role in the story of American wealth and its rise to global power. And the guys contemplate what's changed with the latest ceasefire in Israel. Update: this week's Lileks Post of The Week is Brooding Over Cicadas? Just Eat Them. The UN Says So by @KellyDJohnston. Music from this week's episode: Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe

Hosted by James Lileks, Peter Robinson, and Rob Long
