Let That Sink In

We may be approaching the spookiest day of the year, but it's the government that give grownups nightmares on all the rest of them. California isn't ordinarily a place where suspenseful midterms happen, though our first guest Lanhee Chen has something to say about that. Running to be the Golden State's top fiscal watchdog, he's getting dangerously close to becoming the boogeyman for California's bureaucratic spendthrifts. (Support his campaign here!) Next we have John Yoo. Now that the Supreme Court has entered a new term, we revisit Dobbs and wonder about Moore v. Harper and The Students for Fair Admissions case against Harvard and UNC-Chapel Hill. Pork is also on the docket–and the McRib is in the news!–so John delivers an elegy on cuisine at its finest. There's even a murder plot... Two segments filled with so many treats, we hardly had time for tricks. We decided to let Elon Musk handle that for us this week; but, of course, the hosts have some thoughts on that too.

Who Is WHO? COVID-19, Massachusetts, and the unhealthy World Health Organization

Hubwonk host Joe Selvaggi and Pioneer Healthcare Senior Fellow Josh Archambault are joined by Hoover Institution’s Dr. Lanhee Chen to discuss the role that the World Health Organization (WHO) plays, what dysfunction may have contributed to the scale of the COVID-19 pandemic, and what steps can be taken to bring back transparency and trust.

Back To Work!

We're a full month into full lockdown and quite frankly. we're just about fully filled with aggravation about it. We vent to each other and then we bring in a couple of really smart guys (and coincidentally, Ricochet podcasters): Avik Roy and Lanhee Chen. They (along with Bob Kocher and others) have published A New Strategy for Bringing People Back to Work During COVID-19, a manual for safely re-starting the economy. We delve into detail about how to get people of all ages and backgrounds back into the workforce while putting into place safeguards to prevent another round of infections and another shutdown. Also, should we be buying goods from China? Changing My Mind on “Country of Origin” Labeling Thanks to China, This week's Lileks Post of The Week by BucknellDad tackles that topic. Finally, what are the podcasts the podcasters listen to? Well, you'll have to listen t this podcast to find out. Music from this week's show: Lord Have Mercy on the Working Man by Travis Tritt
