Can the Economy Recover from COVID-19?

In a time when our physical health is taking center stage, our own Dave Carter invited radio, television, and podcast personality Dave Sussman to talk about the impact of the Coronavirus to the nation's economic health as well. Drawing from his own experience in the world of finance and business, Mr. Sussman offers a sober assessment of the road ahead. Then, taking care to not allow the program to take a morbid turn, Dave checks in with Ricochet Contributor Susan Quinn to discuss her maiden excursion into the world of pizza delivery and the result is a pleasant conversation that is rich in laughs and memories. And as if things weren't crazy enough, Dave makes a phone to his Cajun friend, Alphonse Fontenot, who has quarantined himself somewhere in the bayous of Louisiana. The results are, predictably, hilarious. Finally, if you’re listening to Dave’s show, but you’re not a Ricochet member, there is a way you can get a 30 day free trial membership . Tune in to learn more!

Going ‘Weapons Free’ with Lt Col Brendan Welsh and Spin Owsley

The term “Weapons Free,” is used to describe a missile defense system which has been set to launch whenever and wherever the system’s computer senses any potential threat, according to Special Forces retired Lieutenant Colonel Brendan Welsh who shared a great many illuminating perspectives and theories about the US strike that led to the demise of Iran’s Maj. General Qassem Soleimani with our own Dave Carter. And while there were no threats to the podcast (except a wisecrack or two by Alphonse Fontenot), Dave couldn’t resist going “weapons free,” in a show which also features a new segment called Meet The Member, in which various Ricochet Members sit down for a fun conversation with Dave. In this first installment of Meet The Member, Dave talks with a fellow veteran, Ken Owsley, known around these parts as “Spin.” They talk about everything from Spin’s time serving in the Army in Germany to sharing some laughs while discussing the value of maintaining a healthy sense of humor. Sportscaster Mark joins in to talk LSU Championship football, and General Hatchett unveils something called the Hatchett Doctrine. While no one was hurt and no small animals were abused in the making of this podcast, we think you’ll enjoy this “Weapons Free” edition of the show.

Peter Robinson, Rob Long, and a Christmas Extravaganza

Dave pulls out all the stops on this Christmas edition, which includes a remarkable interview with Peter Robinson wherein he discusses everything from how he met William F. Buckley Jr. and came to work as a Special Assistant to President Reagan, to what Christmas is like in the Robinson household (spoiler alert — it includes Peter singing tenor). Rob Long called in with a very poignant Christmas greeting, followed by Dave settling in for a memorable conversation with a fellow retired military veteran and dear friend, Bob Lee, whom Dave has known for some 32 years now. Oh yes, and Alphonse Fontenot makes an appearance to tell The Cajun Night Before Christmas. You may be laughing one moment and getting a lump in your throat the next, but we guarantee you’ll enjoy every single minute of this show.

An Editor, an Engineer, and a Cajun Walk into a Bar

In what Dave describes a more eclectic mix than usual, he chats in-studio with his friend and co-worker, the delightful Joel Valdez who is wrapping up his degree in mechanical engineering, before enjoying a conversation with Ricochet Editor in Chief Jon Gabriel about what it’s like to capture the attention of the President of the United States. And speaking of presidents, Alphonse Fontenot visits Memphis to pop in the studio as well and make his own rather peculiar announcement. The result of all this is a conversation that touches on the world of high-end retail, best and worst management practices, mechanical engineering, binary elections, Joe Biden and the Democrat Primaries (no, that’s not the name of a new rock band), “Game of Thrones Girl,” watches, the water in Michigan, Conrad Hilton, and when to leave a department store. Buckle in, and enjoy the ride!

Picking Up the Pace

There’s a new wrinkle at Radio Deplorable — and we’re not talking about Father Time taking a tire iron to the host either. As Dave writes, “With the extra time I now have on my hands thanks to taking on a new line of work, I can be more productive both with podcasts and with my writing and still have time left over to get in trouble. Whether this episode constitutes quality podcasting or simply getting into trouble is as yet unclear.” Either way, we think you’ll enjoy this one as Dave sits down with fellow veteran Bob Lee, and Alphonse Fontenot, and lets the good times roll.

Christmas Extravaganza With Rob Long

What do you call a gathering that features Rob Long, Dave Carter, Peter Robinson, David Deeble, Melissa Praemonitus, Boss Mongo, and Max Ledoux? Yeah, we’re not sure either, so we’ll just call Radio Deplorable’s Christmas Extravaganza. From Christmas Greetings from Ricochet’s members to Rob’s encounter with Ronald Reagan, from Culinary Societies to Alphonse Fontenot auditioning to become a “moving star,” there’s something here for just about everyone, as Radio Deplorable wishes you a Merry Christmas.

Bob Lee and Alphonse Fontenot

Our own Dave Carter sat down with Ricochet member, veteran, and longtime friend Bob Lee for some frivolity and a bit of sober analysis on current headlines from a gentleman who, by virtue of his mind and life experience, is eternally interesting. Given that into every sober conversation a little lunacy must fall, Dave’s Cajun friend, Alphonse Fontenot, called in to talk dating, baseball, and the NFL. You won’t want to miss a minute of this one.

Air Check and the Return of Alphonse Fontenot!

Dave is breaking in some new equipment and now he’s like a kid in a candy store, with the new fangled mixer, studio mic, and related accessories transporting him back to his days in radio. Just for the fun of it, he’s recorded an “air check,” which is basically a truncated version of what he used to do on the radio. The good news for us is that Dave’s old Cajun friend, Alphonse Fontenot, also appears on the program with some updates from bayou country.
