It's last GLoP of 2018 and we go out with a....shot of eggnog. Actually, we go out with some concise commentary (or rank punditry®, whichever your prefer) on the cuisine and beverages of the holiday, what the heck is going on at CBS, a fond farewell to Penny Marshall, a rave review for Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse, and a pick for the 2018 time capsule. Thanks for all the Goldberg giggles in '18 and we'll see (hear?) you next year.

I've seen "A League Of Their Own" a few times. I don't remember any deliberate tie score at the end.

But, at any rate, in baseball don't they keep playing - extra innings - until there's NOT a tie score?

Unless you’re in Japan. Then it’s considered the perfect outcome. Everyone plays hard, does their best and no one loses.

That feeling when you're halfway through listening to a Podhoretz/Commentary podcast when you realize GLOP just did another of their trademark late-night podcast postings...

The closing song is called “Christmastime for the Jews,” from Saturday Night Live, circa 2005.

For some reason Rob Long's explanation of eggnog--specifically, his insight that melted vanilla ice cream is akin to eggnog*--caused me to realize that that if you:

    1. dipped slices of bread into classic eggnog; and then
    2. toasted said eggnog coated bread slices on a griddle

you would then have French toast. Boozy French toast.

Now I have to do this.

    * Yes, obviously my conclusion is a non sequitur. Yes, I know melted ice cream isn't suitable for French toast. But eggnog, with its egg yokes in heavy cream and cinnamon/nutmeg, would make excellent French toast. Don't ask me what mental alchemy enabled me to make this leap. Don't harsh my mellow.
