This week on GloP, it's the long promised Game of Thrones special episode with the Washington Free Beacon's Matt Continetti sitting in for the sleepy Rob Long (read Matt's essay on the books here). Obviously, this show contains MAJOR SPOILERS so if you have not watched the last episode or you are not a devotee of this show (what's WRONG with you?), then maybe take a pass on this installment of the podcast. For everyone else, well, winter is here.
Hosted by John Podhoretz,
Jonah Goldberg, and
Matthew Continetti

Jonah, Arya didn't poison Walder Frey. She uses a face and cuts his throat, after serving him a special pie.

Uhhh.....I dunno-just off the top of my head ya got Zama, Hastings, Crecy, Agincourt, Tours, Salamis, Cannae. Midway was about an hour and a half. All are widely considered to be important conflicts.

So---I assume the producers wanted to engage the viewer. OK---unless you are a blade of grass you know that in the midst of a brutal battle if one is a participant there will be moments, especially at night, when you do not know who or what is in front of you. BUT I'm being asked to watch the battle and so when a director and cinematographer decide to make the battle scenes at times UNWATCHABLE---literally!---because even on a new, top of the line 4K Samsung I am watching shadows against a dark background, I am being cheated as a viewer.
No?

Among other possibility for video problems, poor quality cables, and I suspect most people don't really have their HDTV set up properly - brightness, contrast, etc - and you really can't expect to properly enjoy especially anything that's supposed to be dark in places, if you don't darken the room that the TV is in. And maybe not just a little.
I don't know that GoT is actually offered in 4k, but even if it is, you're probably not getting proper 4k quality on any online service or even cable TV, with their bandwidth limitations.
