Had a thought or two on academia, while listening on my run here in gloriously cool Charlotte, NC:
Great pod, as always, and thanks to all of you for putting it together. Actually caught part of the live pod but that's a late night here for grampers.

Lucretia, my husband and I were yelling “YES!” after everything you were saying to John about liberals being evil. You have it exactly right!

Lucretia and Steve were getting there on Jay Jones. The problem with a politician seeking electoral office letting loose a text such that he did is that school-age children who make the same kind of statements in texts and/or social media are investigated at the risk of suspension or worse. A grown-up adult running for office should not brazenly engage in such behavior. Lying, sure, it’s expected; cheating? if you’re caught, you’re not good enough at it; stealing? you do have a machine behind you doing that, right? But putting in writing and broadcasting something as base, as juvenile, as stupid as what Jay Jones did signals that his political ambitions must be crushed. Parents, and law-abiding adult citizens should be outraged.
America is currently blessed with a crop of Democrats who are stupid, really stupid. Stupid in public. Dumb, too. Can the Republicans pounce accordingly? The hope is in the voters to make it to the polls and reject stupidity.
