Shoot, just thought of a question: I used to think the interrupting segue gag was annoying; now I chuckle.
Happy?
The larch James?
Well played, sir.
Glad you got it! I knew someone would.
James: When is Graveyard Special going onto the big screen? I figured that in addition to its being a fun read with great dialog, its author knows a guy (Rob Long) who I’m told told basically runs the global entertainment industry, so why no movie yet?
Bathos: I’d rather sell Casablanca Tango first, if I had my druthers. BTW: third book in the series should be out in March, if I get off my duff. It’s the best of the three, I think.
The guy who was nostalgic for Soviet film making was George Lucas.
The guys should sport the Matthew Lesko collection.
They did. For the first couple of shows that they adopted this format.
Ah…mixing it up on us. Carry on.
Rutgers isn’t an Ivy League school. It’s the State University of New Jersey. It’s now a Big 10 school.
But they are delicate flowers there.
Thanks for taking on my question guys. I was quite surprised to hear my question read, but listened carefully just in case anyway.
Rob,
Couldn’t disagree with you more re Dole acceptance speech. As Kellyane Conway said, it was a quintessential (Burkean) speech. I told her that as well in a letter and got a date out of it! It was also very Dole. Paraphrasing “I come from the plains of Kansas where a man realizes he is small in relation to the land.” What a great statement of conservative modesty and humility. He then goes on to blast Utopian big government fantasies. I thought it was an excellent speech.
James pronounced my name right.
That is amazing. :)
Look forward to your post on Minnesota.
BTW, the Getty Villa is in Pacific Palisades, not Malibu.
Rob suggests that no one wants to admit that America is an aristocracy, with class divisions. As confirmation he tells us that he went to the same high school and college as Bush.
I enjoyed the podcast. I think this is the first time that James and Rob did the podcast together without a third person.
They did a good job.
You guys are too kind. I’m catching up on my podcasts while doing celebrity stuff like landscaping the yard and you about gave me a heart attack when I heard my name.
I can write a post about the experience itself if people want, but there isn’t much to tell.
Hopefully they’ll have me back.
Different and interesting dynamic with only Rob and James. I was intrigued by the suggestion that those two do a separate podcast on culture and art – think hard about that, please!
And James – really looking forward to the third book in the trilogy. You have a guaranteed purchase here.
1986? 87? While a U of MN student I worked afternoons with a boss that would NEVER give me an afternoon off.
Well, James Lileks, Geoff Charles, The Clams, and the caterer, Church’s Fried Chicken were going to broadcast live from Lake Phalen in St Paul on Friday for AM 1500. And I got the day off!
A week or so before the event, Charles was canned.
