A Little Bit O’ Sowell

This week, we’re lucky to be joined by the great Dr. Thomas Sowell, (buy his newly revised classic book Wealth, Poverty and Politics: An International Perspective)The good doctor schools us on economics, school choice, and a particularly vivid metaphor for the current election cycle. Spoiler alert: those who fear flying may want to have their thumb on the 30 second skip button for that part of the interview. Also, Hillary’s coughing, Trump ♥ Putin, and it’s a certain TV show’s 50th anniversary that a certain podcast host has some opinions on.

But Peter, Trump doesn’t have the great opportunity to speak out about 9/11 because he’s joined the blame America crowd insinuating Bush lied to get us in the Iraq War and even Bush was at fault for 9/11.

That is the best picture for The Podcast I’ve ever seen.

Because of his political views, Thomas Sowell often is accused of being white.  I’d, therefore, like to welcome him to the white race since he significantly increases our average IQ and height.  I tried to get Walter Williams to join, but he’d already been picked up by the Japanese in exchange for three free agents and two rookies.

The problem with Sowell’s plane analogy is that the plane isn’t going down.  It will continue to fly after November.

The segues were exceptional without Rob.

So when you mentioned the Seattle football team, were you referring to the SanFrancisco football team?   Or are the Seahawks getting into this nonsense as well?

    The All-About-Me-Hawks are dabbling.

This is what happens when you let 25yo athletes walk by a newspaper.

For those of you wondering why James has black shoes on… The truth is in the podcast. All you have to do play all the segues backwards….

The only thing that would have made the picture better is Rob as the Devil on Peter’s shoulder telling him to vote for Gary Johnson.

Sowell’s point about blacks being statistically better off during segregation when racism was rampant and overt — and thus racism is a poor scapegoat today — is worth remembering.

The rest of the podcast is just the same old same old. If y’all are just going to repeat the same debates about Trump or obvious remarks about Clinton, it’s hardly worth listening every week.

I do smile at how very clearly James must enunciate TruNK Club to be sure no one mishears it as something else.

I did at first, forgetting I had already heard it advertised.

Sowell has been writing about ethnicity, race, culture for 50 years.  Few bring so many insights.   There is one area where he consistently misses some important insights, income and wealth.  The system is skewed toward organized interests, crony capitalism, rent seeking, and barriers to market entry.  He assumes that market forces pertaining to the elite in a great variety of sectors are stronger than they are and that rent seeking behavior is less pervasive than it is.

This has not been my impression. In fact, rent seeking and barriers to entry, on whose importance I agree with you, are discussed by him in great depth, and are in large part the basis of his desire to limit the scope of government, who will, he often writes, do nothing more than serve the purposes of special interests against the general good.
