Face-Saving Megalomaniacs

With all the sound and fury surrounding Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, we think it’s timely to hear from an expert on the Indo-Pacific to see if it signifies much. Misha Auslin, host of The Pacific Century, joins to do just that. He identifies the silver lining in the whole affair; elucidates how China’s strategy has frozen us from stating our interests; points to the return of the engagement crowd; and deduces the motivations behind China’s intimidation games.

And with Peter and Rob off the grid, the Power Line podcasters Steve Hayward and Lucretia implement the next phase of their auricular invasion. With James, they jaw on energy policies, Arizona’s primaries, DeSantis’s move against an insubordinate state attorney, lawlessness in Minneapolis and the Kansas vote.

I think it would have been better to find out what guest Michael Auslin thought about the megalomania question James started, rather than find out how he got a nickname.

There would have been no need to have a voter referendum on an abortion restriction at 15 weeks.  The legislature could – and already did, didn’t they? – pass such legislation themselves.  And then the Kansas Supreme Court can throw it out.  Which is actually why they went to the referendum for a constitutional amendment.

Terry Branstad who was the ambassador to China has known Xi since the 70s. Branstad speaks Chinese. It would be really interesting to hear what he says about all of this. The guy’s an expert at staying out of the news, though.

I am so glad the guest was talking about the “porcupine” strategy. That is such a perfect articulation. Instead of throwing all of these countries into NATO that should have been the orientation. I think than the question is if places like Ukraine and all of those countries are too corrupt to do it well. The way things are going, we would all be better off if they made Rufus R. Jones Secretary of State 20 years ago.

It’s not communism. They are mafia that are trying to rip off their own people and the whole planet.

This is a great video. The McDonald’s in Uptown Minneapolis. It used to be one of the most exclusive areas.

They are breaking into cars while one guy holds a gun that is so big you can’t conceal it in a coat. Knowledgeable people are saying it’s a High Point gun which apparently is some sort of carbine.

I think it’s the Lowry Hill neighborhood where they are paying off-duty cops over $100 an hour to patrol their neighborhood now. The DFL is totally panicked from the PR.

We are showing the way to dystopia. lol

One of the worst political decisions was giving the CCP most favored nation status in the 90s.

We outsourced our supply chain to the country that wants to replace the US as a global power.

Many in corporate media have no problem working with the CCP.  We seen the most woke companies who complain about the USA bow down to the whims of the CCP (e.g. NBA, NIKE, DISNEY, GOOGLE ….)

But blah blah blah… free trade or something….blah blah blah… populists are bad…blah blah blah… what are we going to do about the socialists… blah blah blah… why is everybody running out of money…. blah blah blah…what are we going to do about China’s military…. blah blah blah… why do these rubes hate Kevin Williamson so much…. Blah blah blah…

If you want to be in the GOPe that is your business, but try to understand this topic.

@Lucretia, in your comments at the 50:35 mark, there should be a “ta” in dicTAtorial. But maybe you had it right.
