Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
This week, we discuss a bevy of not so smart moments (including one from the producer of this show — more about that in a moment), from the former governor of a large western state, to Ferguson, Missouri, a really stupid salute, the current foreign and climate policies of a large western super power, and pervasive attitudes by large swaths of the population. Luckily, we’re blessed with a super smart guest this week: the Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley, who’s book Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed is eerily prescient of the events this past summer.
Oh, and about that stupid moment having to do with this post? We asked the great EJHill to do the wrong Photoshop! It should have been of the guys saluting. D’oh!

OMG — apologizing for that EJHill masterpiece is the stupidest thing ever! That’s the best one yet!
I agree, that is wicked good, EJ.
Thanks for the compliments. Just don’t look behind the curtain!
The Photoshop is great, I just asked for the wrong image.
When Yeti hands you lemons, photoshop lemonade.
In the words of GySgt Hartman, “Pvt. Snowball, why did join my beloved Corps?”
What might have been had I only had my head in the game. Thanks, EJ.
If I only had a mane.
(Great work, as ever!)
Rob Long looks great as Judy Garland!
Awesome double segway James. A thing of beauty. I salute you and not with a coffee cup.
With apologies for a CoC violation but someone should show this to CnC
As stated don’t try if you aren’t going to execute it correctly.
Thanks, Rax! But I didn’t really slip it past Rob until it was underway, and that means – by my standards – I failed utterly.
The crying fake Indian … I wonder what percentage of millennials get that reference?
In a world of segues, one man brings the redeeming power of full-circleness to an otherwise adrift podcast…
EJ, you completely ironized that one. IYKWIMAITYD.
Genius–sheer genius.
EJHill, we salute you. And you deserve a latte as well. (And I love Peter’s remark that the Presidency of Harvard is the job Obama longs for.)
That’s Vol. 5 Number XXXV.
Actually, the entire Liberal Fascist oeuvre is an unbroken series of cock-ups. Can you think of a single Progressive program or policy that hasn’t been based on a fraudulent premise, failed, or had unanticipated, malign consequences, including killing people. Everything from anti-trust, Jim Crow, and Prohibition to Social Security, the national highway system, and the Great Society, to look-say reading, ethanol mandates, and PPACA.
I guess I have to give them the XVII Amendment. It has had malign consequences, but they are exactly what its supporters intended.
Is that a Harry’s razor?
RE: American Conservatives of African Ancestry
Mr. Robinson- You need to get on social media and look at African-American Conservatives, American Conservatives of Color, Zo Nation, and the various African-American Tea Party groups (The Crispus Attucks Tea Party, the Frederick Douglass Republicans, etc.). Moreover, y’all need to be talking to them on Ricochet. Get K. Carl Smith, Alonzo Rachel, Star Parker, and Marie Stoughtner on the show for crying out loud! And I didn’t even mention the sole African American Senator of the United States. He’s from South Carolina.
I think this is an excellent idea.
I think Tim Scott would be great!!!
Hartmann, you are completely and entirely correct. Thanks for the list of sites–and for the prod.
“Alfonzo Rachel”- sorry for the fast but not entirely accurate fingers. Also add to my list: Rocky Mountain Black Conservatives and the Black Tea Patriots, who have the coolest cover on Facebook.
The anti-imperialist/anti-oppression left can be best be used by presenting their foundational concepts as they truly apply. The ISIS caliphate is truly an empire being born, and they seek to oppress any who are not true believers. ISIS are the imperialists, not the west or Shia. Those ISIS fighters in black—don’t they resemble Darth Vader? Weren’t crucifixions the tool of the Roman empire? The oppressed are all the enemies of ISIS, especially the refugees. We should start presenting in all media the Star Wars “mythology”, to show ISIS in their true light and start to turn more against ISIS.
I should add that I just heard James Woolsey, former CIA director, refer to ISIS as an empire, while talking with Hugh Hewitt.
Peter, does Nico really write “Dear Dad” when he texts?
Purely curious here, but I’m wondering why James, Rob and Peter referred to blacks as “African Americans” when Mr. Riley consistently referred to blacks as, well, “blacks.” This seems more consistent, vis a vis Thomas Sowell, since very many blacks are not of African descent at all. Am I nitpicking?
For heaven’s sake, the VA is not, repeat not, a single-payer system. I wish folks on Ricochet would stop using the VA as a dog whistle for single-payer. Using it as such just makes people sound unconvincing and ignorant. It’s kinda funny to knock the federal government in one comment, and then make such an uninformed claim in another. Come on, guys, step up your game.
