With Peter up in the air, we needed a guest to lift our grounding in the Metaverse. Enter Walter Kirn: novelist, memoirist, Substacker and Tweeter extraordinaire and now a resident of Montana. Walter gives his take on never-ending mask madness, flying the coastal coop, and his upcoming book: There’s a Bear in the House! The man hold no punches at a time when a red-pill a day keeps the kooky bores away.

Rob and James marvel over the number 30 trillion; they weigh in on CNN’s latest severed head; plus Whoopi Goldberg and humorlessness generally.

And Rob really wants you join Ricochet–the best place for free speech on the net!

I remember when Rob was moving to New Orleans, permanently.   It was sometime last year, as I recall. And then… nothing.

There’s nothing like seeing 3-inch roaches that fly and also waiting on the edge of your refrigerator for when you open it.

Apparently he’s been a visitor several times, you’d think he would have known that already before announcing that he would be living there.

FYI, I was just listening to this podcast episode on the Apple Podcasts app and around 35 mins in it stopped playing. When I checked my iPhone to continue the episode, I found that the Ricochet Podcast home page in the app indicates “No unplayed episodes” and when the “See all” Episodes button is clicked all the previous episodes are gone except for the 31 Dec 2021 “Remembering Rush” episode.

Thought you should know, it appears you’ve been canceled and memory holed at Apple. “It just works.”

Edit: the Ricochet Podcast homepage seems to have been restored

Ok. I’ve been told that we’re moving to another server to host the podcasts. The situation should resolve itself overnight.

UPDATE:  It seems to be back already.

UPDATE II: Gone again. Gonna be one of those days…

P.S.:  somebody is trying to do a straight news, no bias news network. It’s on one of the higher channels on my cable. (I’ve never seen it.)

Rob doesn’t understand that Whoopi is applying today’s CRT lens, where all issues are viewed as how whites are oppressing blacks, to the Holocaust in a completely ahistorical way.  That is offensive on her part and also on Rob’s part.

Walter Kirn, “So Montana is not just a state right now, it’s the past, basically. We basically didn’t go into the great reset. We jumped back after a short time and everything that I experienced here seems totally irrelevant to the rest of the country.”

So sad and disheartening that Montana – or just that state of mind- isn’t the future.

I love Mr. Kirn on this and his willingness to express himself contra the algorithms on Twitter. And notably he’s not a Verified Important Blue-Checked Person on the platform. It seems like so much in the corporate media is about pushing the right outrage buttons that keeps those very vocal, very hysterical scold-warriors in charge of the levers of influence of policymakers, whether it’s masking, vaccines, banned books, climate, race wars that it’s now impossible to combat it with reason and common sense – because those things have become irrelevant. Conformity is feeling correct, and it’s a constantly moving goalpost.

    Thanks for another great show.

Oh, and the original audio level was kinda low, especially for people who may need higher levels to hear well in their car or whatever.  I used Nero WaveEditor to increase the level by 6dB, which makes a significant improvement.  If anyone else would like that version, send me a message.

Me too.  I listened to the rest of it on my computer.  My weekend hasn’t truly started until I listen to the Ricochet Podcast.  I can’t wait to hear where the 600th episode will happen.  I vote for the Reagan Presidential Library!

If memory serves, an early SNL skit told of what the (original) cast did on summer vacation.  Laraine Newman is trying on clothes in a dressing room in Puerto Rico when it is invaded by a centipede six feet long.  While Newman tries to climb the walls, the shopgirl nonchalantly dispatches the creature with a bolt from her handy spear gun.

And to think I almost fast forward at the end and missed Frank Zappa! I was on my walk and started laughing and singing like a crazy woman. I got to see them in 1975 or 76 at the Alex Cooley Ballroom in Atlanta with a false ID.

Apologies! I bumped it up and re-uploaded. If anyone still has issues, they can delete their download and and get the updated version.

The last two or three episodes of the flagship I’ve had to really crank the volume.  Haven’t noticed it on any of the other podcasts I listen to (GLOP, three martini, commentary).

Did you re-download from iTunes, or this page?  This page seems to have an updated version.  Maybe not updated enough, though.  I can send you my version through “google drive” if you like, just send me a private message with an email to use.

I’m subscribing to the RSS feed at https://ricochet.com/series/ricochet-podcast/feed. Looking at the feed itself, the enclosure tag points to this file: https://traffic.megaphone.fm/PDR3343990368.mp3?updated=1644256470. (I assume megaphone.fm must be the podcast hosting service Ricochet uses.) And that is definitely not the corrected version.

I can download the corrected file myself from this page, but that’s not much help because that won’t get it into my podcast app on my phone. I guess I’ll have to figure out where it stores its audio and manually replace the file. But anyone else who is subscribing through the RSS feed is still getting the unlistenable version.

If you see actual filenames on the RSS feed or whatever, the revised file should be Ricochet-579A.mp3

Yes, I have the updated file. The problem is that megaphone.fm does not. I think I’ve found where my podcast app stores its media files so I can replace this one manually, but I’m sure a lot of subscribers to the RSS feed are less motivated than I am.
