Wondering what to make of the first GOP debate, Trump’s arrest and mug shot, and the apparently deteriorating battlefield situation in Ukraine? Then you’ve come to the right place. John Yoo hosts this week while we break it all down in crisp fashion, partly because our schedules this week prevented us from recording at a time suitable to have our whisky glasses filled. Next week, we promise!

I agree with almost everything Lucretia said about the so-called debate. Not at all sanguine about GOP chances, especially since, as I’ve been saying forever, a sentient Dem, probably the horribly incompetent but nicely coiffed Gavin Newsom, will defy tradition and get in.
Lovely exit music today. What was it?
In the Lincoln-Douglas debates, one spoke for an hour, followed by the other giving an hour and a half rebuttal, and concluding with a 30-minute rebuttal by the first speaker.
Good Lord Steve, what’s with the equivocation? Trump is killing it by (1) not attending the debate, (2) giving an interview to Tucker Carlson that was broadcasted simultaneously with the debate, and (3) sitting for his mug shot portrait the very next day. As you pointed out, even the FoxNews “moderators” were asking questions with leftist bias – which they would have dialed up to 11 if Trump had attended.
Novels – any of these four by Herman Wouk:
Granted, pretentious intellectuals no doubt prefer Dostoevsky. <GRIN>
I went on a Wouk binge about five years ago, reading for the first time Winds, CM, W&R, and his book on Judaism in succession. Great writer, vastly underappreciated, in my view. Now you have inspired me to get Don’t Stop the Carnival! Thanks.
(Have to confess that I like Dostoevsky, too.)
Exit music was especially esoteric and obscure for this episode: It is a string version of the Phish song “You Enjoy Myself” by the Vitamin String Quartet.
I would add “Crime and Punishment”
