What do you do if you are a center-left thinker confronting the train wreck of the Democratic nomination contest just now, with the strong possibility that socialist Bernie Sanders will be the nominee? Might we actually have an election where some liberals will leave the country if they win? This week’s episode takes up the scene with Damon Linker, senior correspondent for The Week, and assistant professor of the liberal arts at Ursinus College.

Our conversation ranges widely from the state of the Democratic nomination contest and some of the central issues involved, to current book projects and currents in political philosophy today, and finally to a brief look at what ails the academic publishing marketplace today.

Ricochet Audio Network: … Damon Linker, senior correspondent for The Week, and assistant professor of the liberal arts at Ursinus College.

Pronounced in the introduction by @stevenhayward as “ErSINNeous” College.  Ha ha.  We used to pronounce it “ErSINE-us.”

    Aha – confirmation, ~22:40:

Hayward: So what are you teaching now at ErSINNeous?

    Linker: It’s actually ErSINE-us, …

    ~13:55 Steve Hayward:

Gosh, there might be a contested convention because no one’s gonna get – well, Bernie, really – is not going to get a majority of the delegates needed for a first ballot victory

    ~14:03 Goose:

    HONK!

    Steve Hayward:

Conventional wisdom is that’s a disaster no matter how it goes because we don’t know how it will be done …

Steve Hayward’s Powerline podcasts are always fun, this one was no exception, but I still wish the Powerline podcast would get the whole band back together.
