The Spin Zone

Warning: The Surgeon General has determined that the podcast associated with this post contains jokes and observations that may offend some listeners who are supportive of the current President of The United States.

In this episode, the hosts of this show (that’s Jonah Goldberg, Rob Long, and John Podhoretz) pretend they are White House Press Secretaries and are tasked to spin some recent news stories in such a way that makes them a positive for the President (they also take on a few stories that having nothing to do with the CiC). Some may not find this funny. We understand that, hence this very specific warning. But if you can put aside your politics for an hour, we think you’ll enjoy this. But that’s not all: the guys also discuss the recent spate of black face black listing, why Instagram is not a primary news source, and scourge of social media and why no one should ponder joining Parler.

I haven’t listened in a long time. I gave this one 20 minutes. It wasn’t funny, Rob Long gave us an ignorant opinion of Robert E. Lee, and then Podhoretz told a lame joke that he mangled in the telling (as I remember him always doing).  Not wasting any more time on this.

Parler has been around for several months. It turns out it’s got a segment in its terms of service that says Parler will sue a user for legal feels if Parler gets sued for the user’s posts, so now everyone is leaving it in droves.

It’s pronounced “par-LAY.” They actually did go for the French.

I am driven to despair by the dismissiveness about the left wing purging its ranks of moderates, because you see them as deserving, because of how they’ve shut you out.

My God, can you not see that we’ve got a Red Guard taking over corporations–and not just the press? Can you not see the Brownshirting happening all over in real life, having spilled over from the internet? People from Venezuela and Eastern Europe are raising the alarm about this moment: they know what happens when the statues come down and the art is censored.

What happens when the arrogant, self-righteous employees of any given corporation decide to purge their ranks of Christians, because they’re “homophobes”? Will management have any choice but to fire those Christians rather than risk a massive strike by the Red Guard?

These moral panics cause a lot of ruin, but you guys are relatively immune, so it’s not scary to you. It’s a serious moment. It’s scary that you can’t see it.

    Oy vey.

    It’s Sydney CARTON, not Carlson.

I’m not a fan of POTUS but he has a point about mail-in ballots being ridiculously easy to fake. There IS a way to use cryptographic technology to mark each ballot with a character string that is both unique and valid, i.e., you can’t make up a string that is valid without knowing the cryptographic key, and you can’t reverse-engineer the key by looking at valid strings.

But I guarantee they’re not doing that: it would require competence, and gubmint ain’t competent.

Furthermore, some NJ pols were just indicted for ballot fraud when a postal worker found huge loads of fake mail-in ballots in a couple of mailboxes. They weren’t smart enough to distribute the ballots across multiple boxes, so they were caught, but it doesn’t take a sooper-genius to spread them out. How would you detect fake ballots then? When people say there’s no evidence of mail-in ballot fraud, what evidence could they possibly find? There’s no way to know what’s real and what’s fake.

JONAH: You tear down all the statues when you’re gunning for Year Zero. That’s the logic. They want the whole of our history, including the Constitution, to be erased so they can install themselves in power. DOY.

When Dan Bongino pronounces the app, he says Parler (not the French pronounciation) and he’s a part-owner of it.  Also, I believe they are addressing the TOS concern.  I haven’t heard that people are leaving in droves.

Also, Gleischaltung. That’s why there are no more politically neutral spaces. There must be no space where Wokeism is not enshrined. The NBA will censor the problematic messages before we ever hear about them.

The trouble is, they are “conservative“ only on a couple of issues where they are well-informed.

On everything else, they swallow the conventional (liberal) wisdom, which floods in on them from every side.  Often, they don’t even realize that a different point of view exists.

Consider how many of them were suckered by the Covington kids hoax.  Before that, the Duke lacrosse team rape hoax.  The Russia hoax.  The “Bush lied thousands died” hoax, etc.

In their absurd reaction to Trump, they are comparable to self-styled abolitionists who spend 1864 attacking Abraham Lincoln.  I’m sure such delusional people existed.

I listen to the show sometimes, mostly out of habit. When they’re not talking about sci-fi or fantasy tv shows/movies, Rob is particularly fun to listen to. I don’t take the political talk seriously, because Trump is the the last man standing between us and the barbarians, whether you like him or not. Fiddle away, Nero.

My guilty pleasure is to listen to John read the ad copy with all the enthusiasm of a man scheduling a prostate exam.

So much wrong with such a simple joke.  Four words, 2 colons?  Unless “beat me” is now one word in the Oxford Dictionary of the English Disease*, I think not.

The canonical form of the joke ends with “Sadist: No!”  “Later” is for sadist teases,   Which runs up the word count.

That’s not even a joke. I just looked up Big Boy to see if any franchises still existed (Abdow’s in the NE where I am from shut down years ago). They’ve now introduced “Dolly,” and the Big Boy logo is barely to found anywhere on the site.

Not funny.  And I say that not in a woke way, its just that all of this can no longer get me laughing, regardless of spin or punchline.

As regards the response to the craziness.  Conservatives need to stop with the “by that logic, you should…”.  Just as you can’t reason with a drunk you can’t reason with the craziness.  Simply state “You’re wrong” and “No, I won’t do that”, repeat as necessary and move one.

The Odd Couple theme. Gotta love that organ riff and the horns. Some Ska-punk band could cover that tune and make it sound great.

They need  to do a bit more homework if they are going to tackle serious issues on this particular podcast.  Recent Democrat proposals for “vote by mail” are not the same as existing absentee voter processes (that are capable of being expanded) which are much more secure.  Absentee voting is individual, by request with documentation, not mass mailing to faulty lists.  And in many areas you can now use age and COVID as reasons for absentee ballot access.  So it will work.  But don’t expect the left wing press to inform you of this for the podcast.  You need to look it up.

Well, it was a bit silly, but his point was that they were not created with the intention of being put in a museum, they were meant to be focal points for a outdoor plaza or park.  There is truth to that.  Another reason to not agree that we will just move them all to museums, when we also know they will be aiming to purge the museum interiors in due course as well.  Or has that phase started yet?

There is still a Big Boy near us with the statue. As for Dolly and Nugget, they’ve been around for a long time, maybe the 1960’s.
