Got a new piping hot GLoP for you, and we aren’t kidding about the pipe, as that ancient smoking accoutrement is discussed in great detail in today’s show. We also cover C-Span’s Steve Scully’s fall from grace, the media and big tech’s latest in kind contribution to the Biden-Harris campaign, courtesy of Hunter Biden and the New York Post, that time Rob ran into Dick Clark, board games. and why Antonin Scalia was the coolest Supreme Court Justice in history.

Unlistenable. Too much self-important chortling and giggling and dismissiveness about the material that was uncovered rather than addressing any of it directly. JPod is apparently unaware of the other NYPost article on Hunter Biden’s financial requirements of the Chinese. And as the GLoP trio laughs and giggles and makes fun of Rudy Giuliani the podcast is suddenly punctuated with the song “Springtime for Hitler” from the film, The Producers...apparently a way to characterize the Trump administration.
Juvenile. Lame. For those not familiar with Ricochet, they may have the impression that this podcast was produced by the Lincoln Project. Who knows? Perhaps it was.
I did neglect to mention the opening, when these grown men tittered like teenage girls about their respective heads of hair or lack thereof. Stunning and insightful commentary.
This is the first GLOP podcast I have been unable to finish. Yes, we all understand that Trump can be crude and boorish, and the hosts of this podcast dislike him personally. This has been made clear ad nauseam for the past 4+ years. At his point it is becoming difficult to distinguish Jonah from Don Lemon, or Rick Wilson.
The personal attack on Brad Parscale was particularly off-putting. Say what you will about his shortcomings as a campaign manager, but the joke about his marital issues was completely unnecessary, and came off as mean-spirited and cruel, not humorous.
Um Jonah, 800% of $1000 is only $8000, not $800,000…
Wow Jonah. You really take this “Democrats and the media are not so bad” stuff to extremes.
I used to listen to GLoP but got away from it. Seems that was a good thing. I don’t recall it being at all political. BTW what did they determine to be “History’s Biggest Blunder”? Just curious. Haven’t the time to waste listening to find out.
Fours years ago or so I commented the GLOP podcast was so entertaining (to me) that the GLOP guys should consider increasing to two Podcast shows per month.
Four years later I can sincerely say I have not listened to a single GLOP podcast in years.
If you are a talking head/pundit/opinion piece publisher with a vast and growing former audience, you might want to start considering an alternate means of supporting yourself and your family.
Perhaps history’s biggest blunder was having these guys go more than once a month?
P.S. And it’s 153, not 132. Actually should be 154, but that numbering has been off for a looong time.
P.P.S. And, bring back the “old” music. It was much better for this.
The great intellectual Jonah Goldberg refers to White House press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany as “MAGA Barbie?”
Disgusting.
Jonah should be off this podcast.
He doesn’t think too highly of Mollie Hemingway either. Of course, Mollie does have a way of making him look childish and obsessed with Trump.
Trump supporters who are offended by name calling is very entertaining.
Doesn’t Jonah claim to be better? He always used to.
Doesn’t Jonah want to be held to the standards of Jonah that Jonah insists apply to Jonah?
Or did I miss something? Has Kayleigh Mcenany ever claimed that Jonah doesn’t know how to buy pants?
I’ve defended Jonah on here for ages, but he has almost full Bulwark and Lincoln Project. He says he won’t vote for Biden which is good but he constantly downplays the dangers of a Biden win.
There’s a difference, isn’t there? “Barbie” suggests the McEnany is merely a dumb blonde. Never mind that McEnany is one of the sharpest press secretaries to have held that position and won’t let the biased members of the press badger her and constantly puts them in their place.
Jonah’s demeaning slur is just indicative of his bias of anyone who supports the president regardless of their qualifications, record and intellect. This is Jonah’s MO, to attempt to belittle people behind their back as he has done with Mollie Hemingway (on another episode of GLoP) after she had the audacity to challenge him on an episode of FoxNews Sunday.
For the record, many of Trump’s targets deserve the ridicule and names he has applied to them – Crooked Hillary, for example, is a most apt description of this horrid woman.
I think Jonah does that to himself
Anyone who challenges Jonah’s self-perceived Brahmin status is ridiculed as less-intelligent or simply a MAGA sycophant. It gets rather tedious after a while.
Do you really think “Trump supporters” all have the same attitude about Donald Trump? Do you think that perhaps many of Trump supporters don’t wholeheartedly embrace his occasional rude remarks but are supporting him because the alternative is so bloody awful for the country?
Is your own bias showing? Are you only steps removed from castigating “Trump supporters” as smelly Walmart shoppers?
The frustrating bit is they don’t care about the actions of the Biden family. The Burisma deal is gross at a minimum but Hunters deals with the CCP are a national security issue.
So, your argument is A) Trump calls people names, so Jonah should do it too B) the criticism comes from “Trump Supporters” and is therefore invalid?
I personally did not vote for Trump in 2016, find his communication style grating, and yet still find Jonah’s commentary churlish and immature.
I am also fairly confident that, unless the topic were Star Trek or 70’s detective shows, “MAGA Barbie” could mop the floor with Jonah intellectually.
I agree with Blue
DarterYeti, I actually find it entertaining when Jonah goes all Trumpy and starts calling people he doesn’t like cute little disparaging names.I just looked up Kayleigh McEnany to make sure I spelled her name correctly (I didn’t trust kedavis) …. I did not know our little MAGA Barbie doll went to Georgetown undergrad and graduated from Harvard Law … she probably only got admitted based on one of those Barbie College Admissions Preferences.
Mollie made a very good point, which was that if people thought they had been recorded, they would be less likely to lie about what they had said/done. And it did work on Comey, just for one example.
There was an episode of LA Law, I think in the first season but maybe not quite that early, where the attorney played by Harry Hamlin is suing a woman’s employer for wrongful termination. At one point, an internal memo becomes an issue because the memo said something like “we have to get rid of her.” The actual wording of the memo was known, but they didn’t have the memo itself. Hamlin’s character finds out that the memo was written on “standard blue memo paper.” In court, he stands up holding a blue piece of paper, and apparently reads the known wording of the memo from the paper. The defendant – company president or something – says “How did you get that?” “Hamlin says, “I don’t have it. But you did write it.” Bam!
And the attractive women as “MAGA Barbie?”
Given the comments about Jonah’s hair, we should be treated to a current picture of his hair!
I’m not sure about 70s detective shows – and John Podhoretz might have the edge there – but I’ve heard Jonah supposedly lecture on Star Trek. “MAGA Barbie” might be able to mop the floor with Jonah there, too.
Just one example that springs to mind, Jonah once characterized Worf as like “some dork who thinks he can be a warrior.” Actually, among other things, Worf was instrumental in several captives escaping from the Dominion, then he later challenged and killed Chancellor Gowron (note: NOT our own James Gawron, although I sometimes greet him with “Qapla!” because I’m silly) which effectively saved the Federation and the entire Alpha Quadrant.
Jonah would be lucky to be such a “dork.”
This should be episode 153, not episode 132.
See my comment #9.
Part of the problem with Worf is the role he had to fill on the show. Worf was head of security, a Klingon, and the toughest hombre on the ship. What’s one way to demonstrate that the villain of the week is a threat to the Enterprise? Defeat the best guy you have. Therefore, Worf got beat quite a bit.
More news on Hunter Biden’s efforts to help Chinese companies from another source as reported by Breitbart:
Maybe the GLoP boys will be equally dismissive of this.
