Say anything you want about how bad Sharknado was, but concept is 80% of the story and title is 80% of the concept. That means title is 160% of the story.
Wife just suggested renaming to “Plog” which would make this a “Plogcast.”
I blame Al Gore.
I’m somewhat suspicious.
In Maryland a few years ago, William Donald Schaefer, former mayor of Baltimore and governor of Maryland … having achieved all there was to achieve in Maryland politics … ran to become the Comptroller of Maryland. (Almost as if the mayor and governor jobs were the rehearsals before he assumed real, practical power.)
The job of Comptroller, especially after Spitzer’s pursuit of it, may not be the dreck job it’s cracked down to be. The comptroller is the chief accountant, and he basically manages the purse.
Seems to me that if you were looking to create favors (or pay off the favors you already owed), the comptroller job is the perfect place to be.
I have had the enjoyable experience of essentially ridiculing and shaming Spitzer and Weiner campaign flunkies in downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. It’s just astonishing that these sickos may win.
Oh, and Rob needs a phone.
Podhoretz announces GLOP with such ceremony. I really enjoy this podcast – long live GLOP.
On Spitzer…
I’m not getting this. Is Spitzer not the perfect opportunity for a Republican candidate to win the seat? All you have to repeatedly remind the voting public of Spitzer’s numerous embarrassments.
Is there are Republican running? Is he capable? Should he be supported? Maybe invite him on Ricochet?
How long has Peggy Noonan been listening to GLoP? Her WSJ column today is precisely what the guys talked about.
Culver’s is the goods. Put me down for the a Reuben Melt
Have none of them ever seen an episode of Epic Meal Time?
How dare you make it through that podcast without mentioning that I did a Sharknado post?!?! This is proof positive that you disdain the Member Feed. Shame on Rob, Jonah and John.
Don Tillman, There are several people running, including Scott Stringer, who I saw milling around downtown Brooklyn last week. He looked and sounded what you would expect a NYC Comptroller to be like–not exciting, not destined for cable news, so I don’t know if he has a chance…
As much as I like this podcast it was a bit hard to take Mr. Podhoretz’s insistent repetition over several minutes that President Obama messed up by failing to involve ourselves more directly and overtly in the headache that is Egypt. I thought the whole point of “Silent Cal Productions” was that some problems are best left alone.
I have contempt for Weiner and Spitzer, but actually more for the hacks and flunkies who will volunteer for their campaigns.
John,
In the last episode of GLOP culture, you mentioned that you’re folks spend a lot of their leisure time watching International Crime TV shows on Netflix. I also enjoy watching such shows. I’ve gone through many of the British Crime drama’s, such as Cracker, Rebus, Luther, Prime Suspect and I’m now watching Swedish TV shows such as the original Wallander series and the new Annika Bengzton – Crime Reporter series. Thank God for English subtitles.
I would be extremely interested in any recommendations they may have on good foreign TV shows. Perhaps after writing two dozen books, editing the magazine for 35 years and being the founder on neo-conservatism, your father could finally do something truly significant with his life and become a reviewer of Netflix Foreign TV shows!
