Don’t Like Turkey

The men of GLoP are back just in time for Thanksgiving and in fine form despite Jonah recovering from the dreaded COVID. This week, they tackle the troubles at Twitter, the return of Bob Iger at Disney, John reveals his favorite New York City lunch location and admits a dark culinary secret that may disqualify him from being an American, and Rob attends a rock concert by an artist who is a card carrying member of the AARP.

That’s unpossible. The author of Liberal Fascism told everyone that if they’d just get the jab then President[citation needed] Biden wouldn’t have to force them to get it. Biden also said that you won’t get Covid if you get the vaccine. There’s no way fully vaxxed Jonah got Covid.

As always from the intellectual class, don’t ever expect an apology, or even a smidgen of humility, or a “purhaps I was wrong” even half measured with caveats…  I couldn’t have been more wrong about it, it’s not weakness to admit it.

I don’t expect it. Jonah could have said that he was wrong about Trump but he didn’t. He’s stayed the course that Trump was the worst ever.

When they were talking about old musical acts, it reminded me of an episode of The Name of the Game directed by Steven Spielberg.  It was called “L. A. 2017” and is about Gene Barry’s character travelling into the “future” of 2017.  The environment is so bad that everyone lives underground.   The predictions of this time have not aged well.  The first half of this scene is where an elderly band plays over a montage.  Many bands of 70’s could today fit into this scene easily.

Just to be clear, we’re talking about Trump’s “beautiful” vaccine, right?

Well Trump didn’t get everything right. At least he didn’t threaten my job if I didn’t participate in a medical experiment. That’s the fascist who Jonah supports.

At the end, when John asked Jonah where people could see him, it was a missed opportunity for Rob that he didn’t say “standing in the window at the Margaritaville Hotel”.

It’s really about what we know now.

At the time we all thought the vaccines would keep one from contracting Covid.

Some people(ie: not me … I did get double Pfizered) were still against being injected with a new essentially untested vaccine.

In hind sight “some people” were correct to not get stabbed because, as it turned out, it was all risk and no benefit ….

What is so hard for the public proclaiming pro stabbers (ie: Jonah), knowing what is known now, to publicly proclaim he was wrong to encourage the vaccine?

Rather, the risks were a little bigger than expected, and the benefits a little smaller.    Still worth it for oldsters like me, but more questionable for the healthy young.

Great episode. It mentions two of my greatest pleasures of late: “Derry Girls” (Haven’t laughed like this since Newhart and The Odd Couple)and Jimmy Buffet (music not necessarily commercial venues). We all need smiles. …..is Herschel Walker indeed Japanese?

The workers at Mexican food places in Oregon were Asian, and the workers at Asian food places in Arizona were Mexican.

And anyone who thinks Jimmy Buffet only has one hit, just hasn’t been paying attention.

    But entirely predictable for JPod.

“Hundreds of millions” of Americans isn’t just most Americans, it’s ALL Americans.  The US population is “only” just over 330 million.

I was actually going with the Drug company claims … although with the Covid vaccines probably the same as the government claims.

While maybe only one of his songs made a top forty list, Buffet fans are well aware Jimmy has many popular songs …. some fun( ie: Cheeseburger in Paradise, Why Don’t we Get Drunk, Fins, Pencil Thin Mustache, Livingston Saturday Night, etc.) and some serious (ie: Come Monday, Changes in Latitudes, Pirate Looks at Forty, Son of a Sailor, Coast of Marseilles, etc) and I’m not even a huge Buffet guy so I’m sure there are even more popular Jimmy Buffet tunes than those I’ve listed.

Manana is pretty good.  I think Stranded On A Sandbar is a “hidden gem” that a lot of people don’t seem to know about.

    Good podcast, dudes!

A thought on the romantic comedy problem: the best of those stories were undergirded by the idea that life in America so good that there’s a special set of dangers that should and could be staved off. The early hits revolved around the divorce problem that used to be uniquely Hollywood. Overtime the genre shifted to stories about characters who aren’t into the whole commitment thing. The raunchy romances are honest but have their obvious limits.

Anyway, there’s gonna a problem when even the fickle folk of the Palisades, Brentwood and Beverly Hills don’t understand that our biggest dilemma is how awesome life is today.
