Casey Means, our next Wiccan Surgeon General

How many of you know of Casey Means, Trump’s pick to be the next American surgeon general? I’m guessing not many. Let me introduce you to her.

Casey Means is not a doctor, though she did go to medical school. Let me share with you her expertise as stated in her own words. She “worked with a spiritual medium who helped try to connect with spirit guides for support and guidance.” She also “did full moon ceremonies with grounded, powerful women where [they] called in abundance and let go of what wasn’t serving [them].”  “Perhaps the body is simply the material ‘radio receiver’ through which we can ‘tune in’ to the divine. We will get instructions (through human inspiration and reason) for what we need to do to raise the vibration of humanity and create a sustainable future… The future of medicine will be about light. I don’t exactly know how yet.” “Humans are out of alignment with the Earth and depleting its life force…and human bodies are now exhibiting signs of blocking the flow of energy through them. This is insulin resistance. We are the Earth.”

She has also practiced the “Silva Method,” a self-help meditation program. It claims to develop psychic abilities such as clairvoyance. Wikipedia notes that “It has been variously classified as a self-religion, a new religious movement, and a cult, and has been criticised as pseudoscience.” She’s also dabbled in psychedelic drugs.

Why is this idiot being proposed for such an office?

Maybe she is being proposed to ensure compatibility with all the others in the administration.

From the New York Times lead four paragraphs.

President Trump said on Wednesday that he would nominate Casey Means, a Stanford-educated doctor turned critic of corporate influence on medicine and health, as surgeon general.

Dr. Means, an ally of the health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has described becoming disillusioned by establishment medicine. She rose to prominence last year after she and her brother, Calley Means, a White House health adviser and former food industry lobbyist, appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show.

What is her field of medicine?

Dr. Means, who trained as an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon, left surgery behind without finishing her training to practice so-called functional medicine, which focuses on addressing the root causes of disease. She published a diet and self-help book last year titled “Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health.” Before that, she had been best known for founding Levels, a company that offers subscribers wearable glucose monitors to track their health.

She has focused on the prevalence of chronic diseases in the United States and has taken aim at obesity, diabetes and infertility, problems she has attributed to the use of chemicals and medications and Americans’ sedentary lifestyles

Casey Means is a licensed MD, she is not currently practicing.

I dunno, could this maybe be just an indication that the position itself isn’t particularly important, serious, or necessary?  What did Mr Levine actually DO, anyway?

I read that her medical license is “inactive”, and not knowing what that meant I checked:

An inactive medical license is a license that has been voluntarily placed in inactive status by request of the licensee. This means that the licensee is not practicing medicine. With an inactive license, the licensee does not need to keep up with Continuing Medical Education requirements. However, the licensee does need to continue to pay fees, and there’s a restriction on how long the licensee can keep the inactive status. If the license is not renewed after two consecutive biennial licensure cycles, the license will expire and the physician will have to reapply for licensure meeting the current licensure requirements.

Mr. Levine was not the Surgeon General. He was Assistant Secretary for Health, in charge of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Vivek Murthy was the Surgeon General.

True.  Murthy distinguished himself by advocating social distancing and supporting “localized” treatment of school closures.  I’m not sure how Dr. Means stood on those issues.

    Steve,

My point was where we have been, and where we could have been going had Madam Harris got the nod. For all of his warts (and they are legion), the alternative would have been infinitely worst. So I am sort of grateful that some of his picks are just mildly nuts rather than Constitutionally criminal. At my level of the electoral bin, it is a binary choice that was offered.

I was all in on DeSantis, that is not what I was offered.  I am just adding enough Sweet n Low to the mix that I find it is not as biliousness as it could have been. Life is too short to rail against the Orange Hue to the epidermis.

I think we are lowering the bar way too far.  I am not content to just have “mildly nuts,”  that is if you even consider these two (Kennedy and Casey Means) just mild.  I think they are both unequivocally unqualified to serve anywhere in government.

Assuming that this is true, it is merely a manifestation of a longstanding issue.  I’m not suggesting that the new appointees should not be subject to criticism, although I go by results not resumes.  Still, previous Administrations have consistently installed a plethora of dunderheads in important positions and we continue to survive.

I’m sure we will survive these dunderheads, too.  But why not install competent people? Is that asking too much?

Maybe the competent people have more important things to do?  Not that some positions such as Sec of Transportation don’t have important functions, but Surgeon General?  Not so much.
