Me too. I'd especially love to hear the responses from Republicans who voted for an omnibus bill containing such nonsense. Can you imagine having to explain face-to-face to constituents back home why voting for $20 million to fund Sesame Street in Iraq was wise spending of their hard-earned tax dollars?

But it is a pork for me but not for thee mentality. And once earmarks were forbidden, we were immediately stuck with omnibus bills lumbering angrily through the land, crushing peasants and livestock. We don't elect officials to fairly represent us in Congress, we elect vikings to make sure we carry off our share of the spoils.

A line item veto power might resolve many of the problems incurred with the odious omnibus bills. I recognize that it would be very likely that a Dem president would tend to veto most republican grift, and obversely, a Republican President would tend to veto most Democrat grift. But at least half of the grift would be reduced each administration!
