My expectations for the CBS moderators were rather low. They did not disappoint me. So called journalists are lazy and some are in the tank for the Democrat Party.
You could call it lying by omission or some lie by commission. The CBS moderators were there to protect Walz and to diminish JD Vance.
Walz is not much more than a political hack and was selected to not upstage Harris, in other words he'll accept any policy proposed by Harris. This is the same reason that Harris was selected to be Biden's Vice President.
Journalists live in fear that they will not be invited to the best parties in DC or New York. I have no desire to be invited to these parties filled with shallow arrogant morons.
A version of this story can be easily composed about most corporations / industries these days...where the Potemkin Diversity* of a dozen years ago has now morphed into shallow, dysfunctional management (none dare call it actual leadership). The results are obvious today in the public facing interfaces of the media industry; it will become more obvious piece by piece in specific tragic events across other industries as time goes on (think Boeing)...most will be more (immediately) risky to life and limb than the suicide of American journalism.
(*In the early days of this phenomenon, diversity hires and even whole departments were conspicuously placed throughout the upper organizations to boost the publishable numbers. This worked for a time because the organizational structure was still "mostly" populated by merit-based hires or all colors, sexes, and beliefs that ensured technical competence based on the thought, understanding, and complex reasoning that comes with genuine experience. Over time, however, after collecting many conspicuous honors and promotions on top of padding their resumes with pseudo-credentials, the Potemkin became the upper organizational structure and not just that false facade. With the attrition of the genuinely experienced workforce, the impact to these institutions will likely be irreversible. Welcome to your future.)

DeLorean's book On A clear Day You can See General Motors said that the company was originally set up so that fierce competition among the heads of the various divisions insured that those who rise to the top were capable and not risk-averse. The problem with that system is that the top guy was always under a potential challenge from rising stars in the ranks below. So Sloan instituted the "surprise promotion" strategy to bring yes-men into the upper echelons. They would not challenge him and knew that they were dependent on his patronage. Rocking the boat was formally discouraged which helped to make GM what it is today.
Removing objective performance standards also creates a systemic need to protect conspicuous mediocrity. Creedal loyalty to Wokedom to silence references to the obvious becomes a suicide pact for the organization. Lucasfilms, the Ivy League and federal workforce are all on that glidepath. The sanctions against Amy Wax for pointing out that black law students were not achieving high honors are symptomatic.

One reason the institutionally woke favor public transportation is that it puts more busses on the road. This will make throwing colleagues and rivals under a bus much more convenient.

Especially once they start doing it literally, not just figuratively.
