From an Early Draft of Joe Biden’s Speech at Morehouse College
This commencement ceremony brings back so many memories for me.
I remember when I was marching next to the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. He started limping, and soon he had to lean on my shoulder for support. Finally he said, “Joe, my old friend, I can’t go any farther. I have a really painful bunion.”
But I couldn’t let Martin quit. I said, “Hey man. You don’t have a bunion. You have a dream.” I think he later used the phrase in a speech.
I remember another time, when I was marching next to Malcolm X. Malcolm pointed out a white man driving slowly toward us in a new Plymouth. Malcolm said, “Joe, my old friend, I don’t like the look on that guy’s face.”
Sure enough, the driver intentionally bumped into us so hard that Malcolm and I flipped up and landed on the hood. The driver threatened to call the cops on us for denting his car.
But I said, “Hey man! We didn’t land on your Plymouth! Your Plymouth landed on us!”
I wish we had more time. I’d tell you about when I was a bus driver down in Montgomery, and my old friend Rosa Parks got on board.
True story.

Just like every story he tells.
Joe has experienced more incidences of the Mandela Effect than any other president. He’s special that way.
“Speaking of “the hood,” lemme tell you again about that “bad dude” CornPop who was threatening to “cut” me, with his bunch of “bad boys. I had a six-foot chain (not one of them “put y’all back in chains” chains, but a perfectly nice chain). I approached CornPop, hoping to get rid of him by calling him “Ester,” (like Williams, that white [expletive] who won all them swimming competitions).
“You a transphobe?” shouted CornPop.
“Hell, no,” I said. I apologized for that. That seemed to calm him down. Then I said, “First of all … when I tell you to get off the board, you get off the board, or I’ll kick you out again.”
CornPop left.
“And I went back to lifeguarding duties. You know, I got hairy legs….”
Beautiful post, KCK!
Wow! What would America have been without Joe Biden? We would have had an “I have a bunion” speech. Doesn’t exactly inspire, does it?
It inspires me.
Really, really good! Thank you for starting my morning off with a laugh!
I know its sad, but on the other hand, I am glad – that Martin Luther King, didnt live to hear that speech.
According to Joe Biden, it was all for naught.
